Engagement... or so I thought

I am so confused. I am so hurt. I don't know what to think or how to feel. I can't figure out what category to post this in. I don't know if I should keep the ring on or take it off.

We have been together since Feb 2021.

This man has been with me through everything. Including losing my only parent (My mom that I was fulltime caregiver for for years). We live together with my younger autistic disabled brother (whom i take care of now).

He and I have had minor issues here and there. Usually it stems from him being frustrated about me not finding a job yet. We got engaged in March, planning for a July 2025 wedding date.

I found out tonight he doesn't feel ready to marry me by then. ( this is his explanation, he is also autistic).

I'm not gonna lie, I was starting to feel overwhelmed when starting convos about dress shopping and such with family... but this hit me hard, because he hadn't given me any sign that something was wrong.

I love this man so much, but I feel some way about this I cannot figure out. We went through the whole process of having a custom ring made (which I love). We have also decided on our wedding bands. He says he knows I am the one and he's gonna marry me, but he wants certain things handled first. ( communication issues, financial stability) I don't know how to feel right now. Right now I feel hurt and all I can do now that he's asleep is cry. I love him and I know he loves me, and all I have ever wanted is to have my person. I really wish I could put everything into this thread, but it's too much to type.

I know there are a lot of people who would read this and say "dump him", but you don't understand. And I'm not going to.

I'm just looking for words of encouragement/experience from people whom have been in similar situations.

@Novagurl1978

I think it is entirely normal to have wedding plans and things overwhelm and some times one person wants to take a pause or tap the brakes.... I think clear communication and financial items are a big goal that many would like to have in place before marriage but BOTH are ongoing things and will be highs and lows in both finances and communication.

You both want to be together and while you were moving along with plans is it really going to matter if it is later then your time frame?

Work on these issues make a plan you both can support and get behind. NOT talking deeply about all your thoughts and listening and understanding his views is step one of the better communication he wants.
