Grandma Is Now on Hospice. The Cancer Has Spread.
I can’t stand that while Grandma is suffering like this, some people see it as a chance to party. Do they not realize this is the most heartbreaking thing in the world? While they’re laughing and drinking, the ones who truly love her are barely holding it together we’re exhausted, drained, and just praying for a miracle.
Last night, I couldn’t even bring myself to take my sleeping pills for my bladder issues because I didn’t want to risk being too drowsy if Grandma needed me. So, I laid on the floor with no medication, wide awake, body aching, my heart breaking. I’m completely exhausted, but I’d do it all again if it meant being there for her.
This morning, all I want is to walk into that room and see even the tiniest sign of hope, the smallest miracle. Because watching someone you love so deeply suffer like this is unbearable it tears you apart piece by piece. And for anyone who thinks her pain is a backdrop for their fun, you’ll never understand the weight of this. This isn’t a party. This is heartbreak, this is love, this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced.

@Lindsey103 first of all I am sorry to her about your grandmother. Second, you can't help her unless you take care of yourself first. That means taking your medication and getting sleep. Spend everyday you can with her. She knows you love her and it's impossible for you to be there 24 hours a day.
When my father was in hospice 23 years ago I could not stay with him all the time. Sadly I wasn't able to be there when he finally did pass, but I had visited him often and always made sure he knew I loved him. This is what you need to do in my opinion. Don't run yourself ragged because in the end it will hurt both of you.
When the time does come, hang on to the good memories you had with her. The laughing, the smiling and you will be ok.
