How do I know who I can trust?

Have you ever talked to someone and felt naked? Feeling like you wished you hadn't talked to them for so long? I feel that way, because that happened to me yesterday with a guy at my new job. I listened to him out of politeness, but when the time was up, he said he'd helped me pass the time quickly, and that I didn't even want to do what I had to do, and I told him that wasn't the case. On the way out, he left talking to me, and he caught the first bus with me. He said he'd catch the last bus with me too, and go home. But in the waiting line, I told him it seemed strange for him to get on the bus with me, that I wouldn't like it. Then he said the bus was fine for him, but he wasn't going to get on. He waited for my bus to arrive, talking to me, and then went to get his. I don't know why he did that or what he wants. At one point he even said he was a psychopath, the conversation got deep and we analyzed each other lol so I don't know if I can trust him. He probably wants something from me. I just want to be alone. I'm used to it, even if it hurts, trusting people hurts much more.

@nuvembrilhante I've felt that way... what helps me is trust my instincts... Please remember, your peace of mind comes first and it's okay to step back if something feels off. You don't deserve being hurt ❤️ I hope you find comfort and support here 🍀 Sending you lots of love 🐾💕

@nuvembrilhante never trust someone who calls themselves a psychopath on the first meeting and if you feel somethings off in your gut trust it, we all have an intuition to protect ourselves dont ignore it

My preference is to be alone too. I occupy myself with whatever I have on my listening device, or I read something. If I am bothered, I am prepared to say firmly but politely that I want to be left alone. I don’t make eye contact, and I am also prepared to move to a different spot.

To deal with loneliness, I make small connections on a site like 7cups. As I make friends here, I receive comfort and support for the actions I take in real-life with potential friendships. This is how I have felt safe but not isolated.

As others said trust your instincts.

Also trust is earned not just expected to be given.

Psychopaths cannot be trusted...only the gullible & weak put trust in them. They have no conscience or empathy, so they never act in anyone else's benefit (though they often pretend to). I'd say this is a straightforward example of the maxim "when someone shows you who he really is, believe him."

And do whatever you can to keep him away from yourself & out of your life.

That's what I'm trying to do. But I've never experienced this before. I told my colleague in the room that I wasn't enjoying his jokes and that I didn't know how to say it properly, and she didn't seem to want to get involved. I'm alone in this. She's much older, talks to him normally, and seems to get along well. But he respects her. Thank God he came in later today and I left early, so I didn't have to leave with him again on my back.

Do your best to keep your distance and tell this person you just want to be with your own thoughts (or however you want to say it). If you have not done this already, I strongly encourage you to write down everything (including dates and times) when this co-worker started interacting with you and continue to keep this journal.

Also, try to contact your company’s Human Resources department, which might also be called People Operations, Employee Experience, Employee Success, People and Partner Resources. Even if you are not ready to file a complaint, they might help you with advice.
