I Feel Crazy. Tw: Sibling Sexual Abuse

Welp, I’m a wreck, to be honest. I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel. I don’t know which feelings are right or which ones are wrong, or if there’s even a wrong way to feel. I want so badly to be over what my brother did to forget about it or simply move on like everyone wants me to. They act like I want to feel the way I do, or like I’m acting the way I do for attention. I don’t want him to be a part of my life, but he is. When he’s around, I have to be careful with what I say, how I act, and what I wear, just to avoid anything ever happening again. That doesn’t feel fair to me. “He’s changed” is all I ever hear. But has he? Because he has openly said that if a girl dresses a certain way, it’s okay for him to look. He openly whispered to my sister that he bet I was wearing a thong. My sister had to tell me to go change. Yeah, that’s what change sounds like for sure. How dumb do you have to be to believe that? I guess all of these thoughts are coming from the fact that I just saw him. I hate seeing him. I hate the sound of his voice. Something about his voice makes me so uncomfortable and just so uneasy. I know I sound crazy, but his voice makes my stomach turn. I feel crazy who feels like this toward their brother? This complete uneasy feeling, the mix of anger and sadness. I understand I might just be crazy, but the feeling absolutely sucks. I don’t want to keep bringing this up in therapy either, because I know hearing about the same situation over and over has to get annoying. But in life, yeah this same situation floats through my head a lot.

@Lindsey103

Lindsey,
Thank you for trusting me enough to share this with me. First off, I need you to know: You are not crazy. Not even a little bit. Everything you are describing—the anger, the sadness, the feeling of your stomach turning, the constant hyper-vigilance—is an completely normal and understandable reaction to trauma and ongoing disrespect.
There is no 'wrong' way to feel. The feelings you have are yours, and they are valid.
It makes my heart hurt to hear how dismissed you feel by others. The people telling you he’s "changed" or that you’re doing this for "attention" are the ones who are out of touch with reality, not you. You are seeing this clearly. His behavior around what girls wear and those comments to your sister are horrifying and unacceptable. That doesn't sound like change to me; it sounds like the exact opposite.
It’s incredibly unfair that you are the one who has to be careful with what you say, how you act, and what you wear just to be safe in your own home or around your family. That is not your burden to carry, and you deserve to feel safe all the time.
Please don't worry about 'annoying' your therapist (or me, for that matter) by bringing this up. This same situation floats through your head a lot because it’s a massive, unresolved issue that impacts your daily life. It deserves all the time and attention it needs in therapy.
This community is here for you. We hear you, and I believe you absolutely. Whatever you need—whether it’s talking about this again, getting angry, crying, or just sitting in silence—we’re here and you are not alone.
You don’t have to carry this alone.

@Lindsey103

You are not crazy in anyway.

This is natural .

What is not natural, is your family expecting you to be any other way.

He shouldn't have the audacity to look in your direction or come within two feet of you, and no , men don't deserve to look and do and say as they please, no matter what we wear.

You did Nothing wrong 💖

Don’t think you’re crazy. Feeling like this is natural when your own brother does such things to you—it’s very wrong, you know.

I also have a brother who is one year younger than me, and he does whatever comes to his mind: bullying, mocking, mental harassment—everything. I’m just keeping patience for now. After my studies, I will move out of the house.

I’m his elder brother, and it’s shameful to say that my own younger brother doesn’t listen to me. Whenever I try to explain something to him, he’s ready to fight. To avoid drama, I stay patient.

I’m telling you the same thing—please keep patience too. Even if no one listens to you in your own house, after your studies move out from your house start a new refreshing life everything will be okay soon.

It’s really sad that he sexually abused you. I’m truly sorry you had to go through that.

I am so sorry for your situation. No one should have to feel so unsafe in their own house. You are not wrong for feeling this way at all
And its not wrong to bring it up over and over in therapy because that's what therapy is for: talking about things that bother you. You have every right to talk about it every session you have.
Sending lots of love and strength ♥
