Need some perspective

User Profile: randomxxx

I have a problem and I don’t know what the right next step could be, or what I should do, so I’m looking for some perspective on this.

i am having a lot of trouble with remembering things. Years I can’t remember, weeks I cant remember. I can barely remember yesterday and i have to think about it so hard and most of the time I can’t remember it. I forget things so easily and have so many reminders and I forget things so much. I forget when I say things and sometimes my sibling say I said something multiple times. I can’t remeber a lot of things. Everyday it feels like there has been none before.

im not so sure what to do. I don’t know when this started or how long it’s been like this but I think it’s been a while. I’ve just been overlooking it and not caring and just accepting its how it is. But this causes me so many issues.

im not sure if I should tell my parents or not.

they might down play it or think it’s nothing and I’m just faking or what not. Or they might care and I don’t know what would happen. What would happen in this case? I don’t know how they would react, or what would happen, it’s pretty unpredictable.

any thoughts on this would be helpful 🫂

@randomxxx

Write things down and see if it is true memory loss or just not remembering details in a moment of stress or when busy.  Is it short term loss memories only? it is hard to define as long term ones seem fuzzy until prompted for many people.  Memory loss can have lots of signs... misplacing items difficulty following instruction or staying on task or problem solving.

During high stress times in my life, I was scattered and felt like I was not remembering but looking back I see I was just overloaded in those times and I only had so much capacity to cope I am glad those times are not clear memories.

Even if you sought help with it. you may be asked to document to measure amount of memory loss.  It sounds like it has scared you a bit so talking with your parents may be helpful.  Although a vague symptom for some it should not be ignored either.

Thanks for the reply!

I don’t know what to call this but I can’t remember even last year. Not even last week or two days ago. And I do get so distracted doing tasks cuz I’ll starts one the forget and begin another.

im trying to write at the end of the day what I did all day just to try and remember and this is usually hard. But maybe it’ll help me a  bit idk.

i dont know why this is happening, it could be because of my environment. I dont want to tell my parents but if it would change things then i would. I want change. Or I could wait, wait and deal with this unknowing if it’ll get worse or I can handle it. Wait until I leave this environment. It seems so simple but I don’t know if I could do another 3 years

The importance of being able to share your feelings during a crisis.

Today on ***, I came across this statement:
“A person feels better not when they’ve understood everything, but when they are no longer alone with their pain.”
And I decided that I want to share —>

The past week has been psychological horror for me,
consisting of an endless stream of emotions that
simply cannot coexist.
I’ve always tried to keep my genuine feelings somewhere
in the background if I think they’re too raw and
don’t fit my image of a “positive, cheerful person.”
But in reality, the more you try to hide your struggles
and not appear “weak,” the closer you get to a state of
“I don’t see a way out.”

Strange as it may sound, when I share what I’m going through
“in the moment” — rather than after I’ve already thought it all over and “properly” packaged it —
I start to believe that this is what strength looks like:
when you’re not afraid to be perceived as “wrong” or “difficult.”
In my opinion, this is the moment when you choose your OWN well-being and accept your emotions.
Admitting that you’re struggling doesn’t mean you won’t cope.
On the contrary, it means you’re ready to truly deal with it.
When you open up, when you talk about what you’re going through,
you give yourself the chance to heal.
And you give others the chance to support you, and in some moments, to guide you.

I urge everyone to share what they’re going through, to be open, and not to fear seeming weak.
There will always be at least ONE person who is ready to go through it with you.
And equally, don’t forget that you never know what someone else is going through right now,
so be kinder and check in on your loved ones’ emotional state.

It's common for memories to blur a fair bit, especially when a lot is going on but from what you wrote this is more extreme than that.

Talking to your parents seems like a reasonable choice. A doctor or other medical professional may need to be involved.

i know I’m just scared about telling them, I never really tell them anything and when it comes to stuff like this they don’t really care. I do want a change though, so I’m really thinking about bringing it up, I’m just still unsure. I don’t know what would happen after

@randomxxx Is there someone else you feel comfortable talking to first? A school counsellor? A teacher?

I'm really sorry that you have to go through this. I've been there, and I know how frustrating it can be. Don't push yourself too hard. Take things one step at a time. Don't worry much if you don't remember anything. You will surely get over it someday. It's just a phase, I believe. Take great care 😘.
