Should I keep drawing ?
I've been drawing for years now. Not consistently or everyday but whenever I can. Drawing is something I find really fun and satisfying.
But even thought, I don't like my art. I keep comparing myself to others. When I hide my sketches behind my textbooks or computer's folders, other people are confident and proud of their work so much that they boast about it.
I feel like I'm stuck and can't be better than the level I'm currently am at. Even realistic portraits are exceedingly hard to draw for me and that's usually what people perceive as "real art" where as mine tend more into a cartoonist style.
I don't appeal to manga readers either because my style has deviated from that one too. As I peruse my drawings, I find them flat and boring and the drive for it is extinguishing.
Is there really a point to keep going? It's only this year I've started posting on the most obscure site I could find, Cara.(sorry for Cara enjoyers but I didn't know it even existed beforehand. I made my decision based on that and I do like the app)
I also don't like showing my drawings to people I know due to past history and strange/rude reactions. I really don't know what to do anymore.

doing something you enjoy is enough ... so what if it is not perfect when you compare with others.
there will always be something we could have done better that does not matter... showing someone or sharing you might find others who do appreciate your effort/skill .... many like me cannot draw anything.

We are works of art.
The concept of meeting a caveman is enticing. It would be bizarre and wondrous for both parties. But one cannot deny our fascination with our past selves. We do not see them as ugly. We see them as raw and powerful.
If we follow the same line of reasoning, then we should view our current selves as almost godly. Because we have overcome much in the face of not only uncertainty, but the sense of total meaninglessness.
By that logic, the present self is a living monument to survival and understanding, a synthesis of all past struggle into something almost divine. Not divine in perfection, but divine in resilience, in the conscious shaping of experience into insight.
The caveman meets you and sees not strangeness, but evolution, the raw essence that became reason, the struggle that became clarity. And in turn, you recognize that same raw power within yourself, now tempered and aware.
It reframes existence: each moment of hardship is a brushstroke, each insight a highlight, and the canvas is nothing less than your own mind, continuously refining itself.
So keep drawing. Even if it looks broken to you, it is beautiful to me.
Absolutely! Can I give you some pointers? I’m an artist too <3
That would be very helpful, thanks. How do we start messaging on 7cups ? I'm quite new
Remind me to respond tomorrow <3
Keep drawing.
Your art is beautiful.
Comparison never ends well.
I am an artist as well, and I pretty much only show my art to my loved ones, and I have even gotten negative responses from them that did hurt, but I don’t take it to mean that I am a bad artist, but I just try to find the nugget of constructive criticism in it, and use it to make my art more pleasing to more people.
In the end though it is not actually about what other people think of your work, but that you know that your art is beautiful and that you truly believe that and take pride in everything you make.
Best of luck to you. Keep me updated on this.
