Weekly Prompt #1. "How are you with self-awareness and have you been able to use it to detect red flags?
We are looking to explore self-awareness. And how the act of self-awareness can help us detect red flags that may prompt immediate attention to avoid or weaken the strength of an episode.
@ThoughtLight can you explain more what you mean by this? "to avoid or weaken the strength of an episode"
@AffyAvo To use red flags in a way that could possibly avoid an oncoming episode or prevent it from being a full-blown episode. For example, when my concentration becomes disrupted to the point of preventing my daily reading for more than a few days it's a red flag. I then inform my treatment team and actions are taken to fix a problem early.
@ThoughtLight hi ❤ hope your doing ok? Gives you a giant tiny hug ❤
I'm pretty self aware I think. I always seem to be on high alert. But I'm not very good at being aware of people's intentions. I'm a vulnerable person, and openly admit that. But I think I need to do some work with this red flag thing
@Tinywhisper11 I'm getting along. College orientation went well. Admitting an area that you need improvement in is the best place to start. We typically learn by trial and error before really detecting red flags because they can seem ordinary to us after a certain point.
@ThoughtLight well done for college ❤❤ I only socialise on this site, but I think I'm learning ❤
@ThoughtLight
Nice question actually. I am self aware and not self aware at the same time. I mean I know what a red flag is for me and how is that affecting me but I am too sedentary to take any action and hence I just ignore it most of the time... Like if I know the cause of my distractions I wouldn't work to eliminate it. And because I am aware of what's wrong and still I am not working to improve it i feel that I am self aware and not at the same time.
@ThoughtLight
I have always thought I was self aware and other people have told me the same thing. However, I seem to pick and choose when to be self aware and when to not be. I can pick up on red flags, but I disagree with my intuition and go for it anyway.
@lightTree6221 that's very wise that you see that. I'm afraid most of us are guilty of that at some point or another. When choosing your intuition and going with it do you ever end up wishing you had listened to the red flag, or do things turn out alright?
@ThoughtLight Hi there,
Depending on the red flag, it can vary when I realize that one has come up. 'Preventing an episode' can be challenging because if you are not aware of one happening, how are you supposed to fix it?
Things that can be done to raise self awareness is to listen to your inner emotions and to follow your gut. Paying attention to your actions versus your words and your words versus your actions respectively. I think that talking things out always helps too, but doing all of these things does take practice.
I have found that trying to slow down and becoming patient with myself has helped a lot, but there are still things that I am working on too.
Thanks for the prompt!

@sincerePlane4053 it's great that you are working on it in the first place. Red flags are like tremor signs that precede an Earthquake or a Volcano a few days before it actually happens. Admittedly I can be bad with ignoring or overlooking red flags myself sometimes. It takes practice, observance and experience to get it down. I'm glad it's on your list. And thank you for sharing.
