loneliness and how to cope?
hello all! i’m relatively new to 7cups, so i hope this reaches a few people and i can get some good advice :)
basically what’s going on is that my boyfriend of 9 months is having to leave for 9 months due to military reasons. he leaves in less than 2 months and its really starting to hit me hard, and i’ve been struggling to come to terms with it. he’s helped me with so much like moving out, issues with my family and my own self worth.
he’s pretty much my best friend and whenever we found out he was having to leave, it felt like i was grieving someone who was still there and hadn’t left yet before anything had even happened. i cry off and on all the time and intense pmsing doesn’t help at all.
any advice?

I know when it becomes real it is hard.
I had a partner who traveled for months when we were first together. I too had made changes like moving out and learning independence. I needed to be tested on what can i do on my own it helps us learn what we can handle and how to tackle other items.
It was lonely when I dwelled on it, but it actually helped me learn what I can do by myself. You will still have connection calls / email text? I did not have calls or text relied on old fashion mail lol.
yes i hope we will have communications such as calling! i’m sure we’ll be able to text at the very least. this is all just very new for me, and i’m a very physical person. it’s gonna be hard, but i’m going to look into starting new hobbies and maybe therapy :)

I won't claim to know what having a loved one in the service is like, as I haven't had the honor myself. It sounds like you might not have a ton of support outside of him since you mentioned issues with family so I'm sure that makes it more difficult.
Have you spoken to him about it? Is this a topic you feel you two could speak openly and freely about? I wonder if that alone could help you feel better about being apart from him.
Also I'm sure there are support groups out there you could join specifically for people like yourself. The Internet might be a scary place but it's great at bringing people together.
Best of luck, and I hope everything works out for both of you.
