hi guys,

tw: suicide, sh

recently i have been struggling pretty heavily with some suicidal thoughts, self harm, and have found myself falling deeper into my depression. i didn't want help for a while because i thought things were never going to get better, but after some sorting out i figured it could turn out really beneficial for me. anyways, today i thought maybe i should write a letter to my mom instead of having a face to face conversation because i find those hard; telling her about how im feeling and asking her to help me get the right support i need. the thing is, it's really difficult to have conversations with her about these kind of things because she's the type of parent who makes these conversations uncomfortable and most of the time they always end up in fights because we cant come to understand each other, and each others needs.

so, i was wondering does anyone have any ideas on how to work up some courage to give her the letter, or how to have a open conversation with her about what im struggling without fighting?

@brooklyngs

I an answering this with experience from both angles dealing with my mother and being a mother and having a child deal with me....

being direct is best i tried so hard to not offend and beat around the bush about things with my mom never resolved what i wanted to or she did not get it ...... always trying to spare others feeling or discomfort and or sugar coat it will only prolong your issue.

now as a mother .........my kids know be direct / be honest ..........and if they see me ( which people do ) think about what i will say instead of actively listening they step away and let things sink in then we resume....

can you leave your letter in a place she can not miss .... and will read ........

@brooklyngs it is probably best to tell your parents about this or a therapist :)

@philosophicalBalloon6405 yeah, the thing is with telling my mom is im just so afraid of a bad outcome or a fight.. and it's really hard for me to open up to her about these kinds of things anyways

@brooklyngs

we all fear bad outcomes but without action sand taking the chance on a bad outcome ...... we cannot experience a good or great outcome....

The biggest things you will regret later on is item you did NOT do.
