sharing my story again

I ever had this friend who always talked back about my sad experience everytime they experienced something upsetting. They're like "Oh my story was just like that time when you blah blah."

I already told them to stop bringing up about my bad experience since it already passed and I didn't want to talk about it again because it made me sad. They said "Ok, so you're avoidant." Then they promised to not talk about it once I told them not to but ..

Then they talked about that again when they had the chance, which is why I leave them.

Sure I'm avoidant, but isn't it usual for a person to dislike talking about sad experience? Like I'm trying to forget about it..

@hopefulencounter

I agree with you we do not need to have something we are moving past brought up again and again.

@hopefulencounter

It's your business if you want to cope in this way.

You don't owe your friend or anyone,can explanation.

I'm like you, when it's done, it's done, I don't need to rehash it a million times over.

Friends should respect boundaries.

I went through similar recently with someone pushing me to share private details with them that was nothing to do with them, and when I didn't share,they stopped talking to me, which effectively now, I see as a blessing 🥰

@Amanda84 Honestly, thank you for saying this. It really helps hearing it from someone who gets it. Once something is over, I don’t want to keep reopening old wounds just because someone else feels like talking about it again.

And you’re right, friends should respect boundaries. If they can’t, that says more about them than about us. And honestly, the fact that someone stopped talking to you just because you didn’t share private details… yeah, that really does sound like a blessing in disguise. ❤️

I’m glad you got out of that situation, and your words make me feel less alone in mine.

Agreed! Whether or not you want to talk about a difficult experience is totally up to you, and no one else.

Also, just because you don't want to talk about something sad that happened to you on someone else's terms, doesn't make you avoidant. No one else should feel entitled to decide that for you.

I'm so happy to hear you've been brave enough to distance yourself from someone who wasn't respecting your boundaries despite having to reiterate them twice.
