which one hurts less? A goodbye without saying anything or a goodbye with saying something?
both not easy to do. It feels better to not saying anything but then will feel bad afterwards 🥹

Good question.
i think when saying goodbye the pain or feeling are dealt with in the moment.
when you say nothing .. regret in wishing you had said something hits later on but that pain and disappointment lasts much longer. IMO

I'd say it depends on the situation. If you're leaving a toxic or abusive situation, leaving without saying anything can be necessary and preferable to prevent more of the same. The other person isn't going to give you closure and will likely try to gaslight or guilt you. In less charged situations it's usually better to get everything out in the open to get closure and avoid unnecessary drama.
@hopefulencounter This may not answer your specific question as you meant for the answer however back in 2005 I lost the most important man in my life due to stage 4 lung cancel I had only seen him alive 7 hours prior when I received a call the next day at 4 am informing me had passed. I truly wish I had been there so we both had the opportunity to saying Goodbye to each other-at least during this life time. Although I still feel he still is with me which sometimes I do sense he’s near by but I hope to reunite with him in the next life. He left me in 2020 and since that time theres not a day goes by if someone doesnt hear me say his name 1 or more times a day. I still mourn for him as if it was only hours ago that he left. Its been really difficult living this life without him by my side physically but somehow or another I think that although hes no longer here physically we are still together except that he is in another dimension of time.

I said goodbye to a 12 year friendship back in March and still do not know how she took it.
I sent one text that said I was walking away and she replied very hastily and what seemed upset, made it all about her and no acknowledgement about my goodbye. I gave it a couple days then responded with a more insightful message as why I was walking away and she never responded.
For me it was one of the hardest things I've done in 60 years 💔 but will have to live with my decision. Especially since we work in the same office building and we have yet to cross paths.
goodbyes are really hard. why not do what makes you the most comfortable. maybe you would want to consider distancing yourself rather than cutting ties completely if you don’t want to be too close with someone?
saying goodbye allows you to state your stance clearly and give them closure otherwise they might get the wrong idea that you don’t want to go and keep on finding ways to contact you etc
