Hey! I hope youre having a good day! In this post I will talk about Anxiety and its affect on Motivation.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying.

These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, while severe anxiety can be extremely debilitating, having a serious impact on daily life.

What is Motivation?

Motivation is the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. So, if you want to complete a piece of work or homework, your motivation could be that if you get this work or homework done, you can do something you enjoy, as a reward! For example, watching TV, eating some nice food, or maybe playing a game. It really is up to you!

How are Anxiety and Motivation linked?

Anxiety makes people worry. It could be about something they really want to do, but they arent sure how to go about doing it, or talk to someone about trying to achieve that goal. At times the panicky thoughts take over the motivation and if you're anxious in a certain place or have a panic attack, you feel hopeless and have zero motivation to do anything as you feel like the exact same thing is going to happen again. This is a sign of panic disorder.

Many people with anxiety find it hard to leave their bed in the morning because of how many nervous thoughts they experience about the day ahead. In some cases, people may have agoraphobia and struggle with leaving the house. This takes a lot of guts to be able to do! Motivation really can be lacking when people are anxious and it is important to have a support system around you. If you are struggling with agoraphobia, please feel free to take a look at the following link: https://www.7cups.com/forum/AnxietySupportCommunity_53/Agoraphobia_953/

So, if we try and set ourselves realistic goals and remember to be aware that we need to try and be the best version of ourselves we can, then anything is possible. Dont let Anxiety get in your way! Find a motivation and work hard! You can do this!

Thank you for writing about this! I think it's important to realize that motivation can be linked to something like anxiety because figuring out what is holding us down is one step in the right direction. smiley

@HarveyM this is so true!! Sometimes, if I'm anxious about starting something because it seems overwhelming, I'll just put it off. Making smaller goals that are more manageable really helps! Thanks for this post laugh
