Err.......How to Let Go
Well, like the title said, this thread is about learning how to let go. Letting go is the act of accepting a situation in which we have little or no control of, and therefore, would do us more harm than good if we were to hold on to it.
Letting go is hard; that's because we as living organisms have wants and desires for things, things that we sometimes can never have. To have wants and desires is good, really good; in fact, it gives us the sense of focus and purpose we need to drive us towards obtaining those wants and desires.
After all, imagine you not ever feeling hunger or a craving for food; would you then go out and work hard to get that food? Or what about desire for (err...insert uncomfortable here)? Would we all go not go extinct if we weren't driven to (err...insert uncomfortable here still)? (I'm childish, I know). You can say that our wants and desires are the things keeping us alive.
However, having too many wants or desires, or having wants and desires for those that you can't have could be harmful, and possibly very destructive. I mean, what if you were working but you can't let go from checking all those messages and emails? Would your work still be productive then? Would you still get the rewards of a good productive day at work? What about thoughts and ideas that conflict with each other? What if you wanted to be a chemist but also a medical doctor or engineer at the same time? Would you try to learn all those professions at the same time and fail simply because you're trying too many things at the time? Would you succeed?
You can't have it all, not at the same time anyway, and you have to allow yourself to let go of some of your wants and desires in order to focus on what is achievable at hand. You might be able to succeed in all three professions shown in the example above, but you must do so by focusing on one skill at a time, one subject, one topic of interest, until you've acquired concrete knowledge of the skill of study. Afterwards, you can then focus on the rest of your topics of interest, one at a time.
Ask yourselves now, are you too burdened by distractions or worries about the unknown future? Are you struggling to keep a steady focus on work because you keep looking at you inbox? Are you trying to finish your school paper but you're not able to because you can't keep yourself from running off to hangout with your friends? Or are you a hyper-focused productivity maniac who can do all those things at once without ever having to suffer the effects of distraction?
Letting go is hard, I know, but do you think that it's worth it to let go of what is unobtainable in order to focus on what you can achieve at your present? By making this post, I've temporary let go of my worries and fears of judgment. Do you think it was worth it? How do you feel about my post? And what would you like to say about it? Finally, how do we let go?
You can let me know your answers below in your replies.
"Are you struggling to keep a steady focus on work because you keep looking at your inbox?"
Yes ?
Awwhh......*hugs...without bites* ![]()
I love yourpost @amboredd! I think letting go is definitelyhard, because we're human beings, and we often think more about what we want, than what we need. I know when I read this post, a specific situation in my life, and the thought "but.. but.."automatically came to mind.
It's so easy to make excuses to hold onto something that's not beneficial to us, but perhaps letting go issomething that we should focus on more![]()
Glad to hear your feedback!! ![]()
now that I'm thinking more about it though, "letting go" isn't always something we can control that easily. When dealing with death or similar situations, there is a whole process of grieving that must come before being able to let go. I suppose it depends on the situation, and what is being "let go" of.
That's true.
But in the end, it's you who decide to let go of those feelings or not. I mean, there are those who go through the entire process but never really learn to let of what happened.
True!
"learn to let go, that is the key to happiness"
I really liked reading your post, friend. you're right on so many aspects, letting go is definitely hard but once we rid of the things that dont matter and redirect our focus, it gets better, or at least it feels like things are better. it really made me question how i let go... for me it all starts with setting a goal and not letting the self doubt get to me anymore.
Build a snowman.. (let it go.. ba dum dum chish! .. ahhh bah :))
