Reach High

I was thinking of what the next post on motivation would be. The first thing that came to me was something my dad told me when I was really young, that I wanted to share.

There was a time when I lack motivation. It was non existent. These were his exact words to me, "God gave us two hands to reach up into the sky and touch the stars. Nothing, and absolutely nothing is impossible. If you can dream it, it is yours to build."

This brings me to my question: Who has motivated you and made you who you are as a person?

Have a lovely day.

Spring

@colourfulSpring22

That is an extremely motivating quote from your dad! Thank you very much for sharing that with us!

What has motivated me to be who I am?

Well, I've made a goal, or target and I've had my heart set on it! I've become the best person I can, and I'm learning more and more everyday!

@colourfulSpring22 One of my dad's students, in particular, has really inspired me--she realized one day that she was a really privileged white girl, so she decided to join the army. The US wouldn't let her on the frontlines, so she moved to Israel, learned Hebrew, and became a sniper before she turned 20. Now, she camps out in the wilderness with her PTSD dog, being healed by living in the wild instead of indoors, and is a photographer at Harvard. She got into their program without even touching a camera before that point, because she has incredible stories and is not afraid to take pictures of the things that are really going on in everyday life. She casually mentioned to us that she punched a bear in the throat to save her dog once. She's one of the coolest people I know, and has inspired me to write about people and the things going on in our world, so I thought I'd share her story!

Life has its ups and its downs, but the best skill to us is to get up and dust off and hole your head up high and keep moving forward.

I myself am not ashamed to say that I have multiple severe mental illnesses that have meant that I've spent a whole year of my life in an inpatient hospital.

I'm out now and determined never to go back.

Mindfulness and yoga have been so motivating to me (as well as, of course, family and friends). To connect to my body as I have through yoga and to love and nourish myself rather than starving myself because of my Anorexia or self harming, I flow it out on my mat. I do gratitude exercises, where I just stop, breathe and thank myself for still being here, for my body for going through what it has and still being here to carry on living.

The most important person in your life, is YOU. That isn't selfish. That's the truth and you deserve to know it.
