The 7 Habits of Health and Happiness
"The Seven Habits of Health and Happiness
If certain habits reliably produce wealth, increase lifespan, and foster love, there must also be habits promoting happiness and health. Not surprisingly, studies confirm precisely this prediction; certain habits predispose happiness and health, whereas the opposing habits prejudice us towards depression and disease.
The most practical and persuasive finding from the habit literature, however, is that habits perpetuate happiness and health and that the habits of mental well-being and happiness and the habits of physical health are mostly the same habits.
Research shows that cardinal habits related to:
- sleep
- self-talk
- physical activity
- relationships
- nutrition
- goal-setting
- stress management/coping
... either predispose our risk for depression and disease (figure above) or promote our capacity for happiness and health (figure below). Collectively, these seven habits function as the nucleus of our quality of life.
Habits comprise our mental and physical health foundation because of their repetitive influence. Although no single instance of exercise, healthy self-talk, or act of kindness toward our spouse, for example, may seem particularly significant, when repeated over time, habits' effects compound into remarkable results."

For the past 7 years, I have been on the search in how to define happiness and what it means to me. Although I still don't have a solid answer, I'm constantly searching for its meaning and purpose. I've found that there are temporary happiness, and then there are times where it'll last longer.
Studies have shown that learning to be grateful and think positively will also enhance the tendency to feel more happy. Habits are usually learned in 7 weeks, of course though, it may be harder to form new habits for those in their senior ages. Unless she/he had always been someone who loves learning new things and had been continuously seeking out things to do. Stubbornness at that age also stops someone from forming new habits too (for example, someone like my dad and aunt, both in their 70s). They do not accept new ways to do things, as they believe their own ways are correct and they become forgetful or rely on others too much to use their own brains to think and remember things.
During my road to self-healing in depression, I've constantly tried to develop some good habits. Whether that be giving myself a time frame to dwell on something, or to try and see depression in a brighter light.

I’m with you on that. Searching for what happiness is and means to you, can be such a journey. It’s a complex and elusive concept.
I also love your approach to developing good habits. I like the idea of giving yourself a time-frame to dwell on something. That seems like it could be very helpful!💜
Setting a time limit to dwell on matters certainly helps to an extent. It allows me to process what has happened and figure out how to cope.
I've developed another habit where I use my showering time to think out loud. Sometimes I end up feeling teary, but that's okay, I'm in the shower anyways, so the water can wash away my tears. A funny thing though, when I think out loud, I end up not speaking my mother tongue.
