Post surgery emotional breakdown
I've recently had a microdiscetomy and I feel so emotionally vulnerable after this. I never even had to stay at the hospital before this in my life. And all of a sudden I need spine surgery 😥😥😥 This shocked me very much. One of my friends also made some insensitive comments during it, and so did my mom. I'm recovering but am feeling scared of I'd ever return to normal. It's been very isolating 😔😔😔

I was suggested this surgery for a nerve problem in my back but I never had it. I do hope you are recovering well! Surgery can make us emotional, especially when we've never done it before. It can be very scary! I hope you are doing a bit better.
@TovaCares76 Thank you. It's a very common problem, but most people don't need the surgery. Unfortunately, I did need it. So, that's emotionally devastating
@inthequeue
I hope you didn't feel I was downplaying your surgery. Herniated discs are no joke, and your back is nothing to be messing with! How are you doing now?
When I was told I had a brain injury and that my memory and possibly my mental health would never be the same, that was a hard blow. I lived in fear of early onset dementia. I had to move into a place where I could be cared for. It was scary! Guess what? Three years later, I'm doing better than ever and moving into my own apartment! My message here is that we can go through some seriously devastating things, and still come out winners for going through it. Your experience right now is scary! It's emotional, and you don't know what else is in store for you. But... you have the chance of coming out better than before! You just don't know it yet. ❤️ As for the insensitive comments, that isn't very nice of your friend and I hope you told them how that made you feel. Not a very nice things to do when you know that your friend is sensitive to what they're going through.
@TovaCares76 Thank you for sharing your experience. I never went through any serious health issues that's why it's so scary for me. I'm happy for you, and hope things look up for me too. As for the friend, I'm mostly not talking to him anymore. It hurt me so bad that I was thinking about his words, even during my lead up to the surgery
@inthequeue
I'm sorry to hear about this. I hope that you feel better soon!
I hope that the comments you received haven't hurt you in any way. I'm sure that they did not intend to insult you, but to play the problem off. However, I am not aware of what type of comment was made so if I wrong, please forgive me.
Your surgery has not changed who you are, instead. It's made you better. As long as you remain the person you were before then I don't see how life couldn't return to normal. Sure, the surgery has happened but it's not what will define you.
Take care of yourself, I hope you feel better after everything.
@GoodMellow thanks. They were really hurtful comments. My friend kept saying how I'm getting old and getting surgeries that old people get. I don't know if it was offhanded joke or something. Lately he's been making jokes that has been subtly demeaning. I no longer feel they are light jokes but actually malicious.
@inthequeue
I hope you will be able to find a resolution to this. Just know that you are a good person and surgery isn't going to change that fact.
