when you think of me, does it still leave a bitter taste in your mouth and fill you with disdain? do you see your reflection in me? are we just like before, stubborn in our truth and uncertain in what we are? do we still talk to him, and is it love i feel? was i right about everything?

This question reminds me of a anime quote. For context the main character has a future version of himself, except his future version signed a contract with his soul. Because of that his future self is immortal and travels endlessly through time killing threats to humanity. But he gets bitter because he doesn't like killing. 

The main character as his younger self has a unwavering ideal to be a hero of justice. And his older self wants to either make him drop that ideal (because that's what lead to him signing the contract) or kill his younger self, all just to end his own eternal torment. 

The younger one dislikes the older one thinking him jaded and without empathy, and the older one dislikes his younger version thinking him naive and not willing to do what needs to be done.

Despite all that the older version can't help but relate, understand, and try to guide his younger self.

Towards the end of the anime the older version says the quote I am thinking of while fading away.

"How cruel, forcing me to look into a old mirror. So a hero like that truly exists. . ." 

IDK why I typed all this out, just was reminded of it, I guess the only lesson one can get from the little description I gave is, don't sign a contract with your soul without reading the fine print????? IDK later
