Having a negative outlook on life makes it harder to heal.

Level 60 here. The way I grew up making a mistake was a good way me to get scolded or insulted. So I try to be perfect. Well Im not perfect. I cant account for all the variables in life but I feel as if I can. So when I feel Ive done everything I know how to and I fail my self worth takes a dive. Im learning that things going differently than I expect is normal. Im still me when fail. Im not less than because I make mistakes.

@greenJet4499 that sounds like such a valuable insight. So if you make a mistake, your mind automatically assumes there is something wrong with you. Now you can reframe and redirect those automatic thoughts! yes Making mistakes can be painful and upsetting, but one perspective I like to remember is that this is where growth and learning occurs. Mistakes can be important, valuable and even essential. Besides the fact that they are inevitable. One of my favorite authors, Joseph Campbell talks about themes in myths and stories from all over the world, and how these stories teach us about life. One themes is of the hero stumbling or faltering and then discovering a great treasure that they only would have found through their mistake. Imagine a fairy tale about the hero getting lost from a path, maybe falling into a pit, maybe getting stuck and finding something tremendously valuble there, like lost treasure or a magical tool. We find tools too when we make mistakes because we learn how to fix them and be stronger. "Where you stumble, there you shall find gold." (a quote that I literally got tattooed to remind myself! laugh

I think learned a lot from the exercise about what you would tell your friend if they were going through what you are. I also feel like the breathing and mindfulness exercises were good.

To not give importance to things that don't deserve it.

This one took me 50 years. If I gain my confidence from who I am and not what I do, if the world attacks my work it doesn't matter. I can't be rocked.

I have ups and I have downs. I need to appreciate myself in both. I need to share and connect with others in both.

@goodCoconut8878 - Yes, Coconut, this is a very good thing to be noticing or to be aware of. It is a difficult thing for me - to appreciate myself (kind of at all). So you've given me a good reminder. And yes, to share and talk and write to or in some way connect with other fellow human beings in BOTH when I'm doing/feeling well or good and also when I'm feeling down. It can be very hard to even want to connect and then to know who to try to connect with, if I'm really down. But you are right; it is important. Sharing and connecting on emotions and events helps us to feel waaayyyyy less isolated and therefore more connected. Good reminders for me here - thank you, Coconut :) Platy
