Real Positivity -What is it?

March 5th, 2023

Let's talk about Toxic Positivity to understand the Opposite: The Real Positivity:

  • "it's okay to not be okay." It isn't realistic to be okay all the time. Remind yourself that if someone doesn't feel okay, that's perfectly acceptable.

  • ⭐ Manage your negative emotions, but don't deny them.

  • When someone expresses a difficult emotion, don’t shut them down with toxic positivity. Instead, let them know that what they are feeling is normal and you are there to listen.

  • Remember that it is normal and healthy to feel all of your emotions—the good and the bad.

Real Positivity -What is it?

My understanding: When you aren't really feeling good, but force yourself to appear good, that's toxic positivity. When you acknowledge emotions (good or bad) and take your time to process those emotions, so that you may manage and direct them to a creative direction, that's real positivity!

Your turn now. Please share your understanding below!

Please do not think I am being negative or disrespecting with my words.

Interesting perception and concept ...
Upon reading others reflections and understanding, it has broadened what I perceived.

Toxic Positivity

When I logically read this, it is a rewording of what is ideally "Tarnished and cancerous lie"

Words (which is why I put the disclamer first) are most powerful. Phrases such as "The Pen is mightier then and the sword."
"Be mindful when it comes to your words." and like reference biblical on you have two eyes, two ears, one mouth...

But then, what is a lie but "not the truth" which then reflects on two areas.
The truth is in the beholder, which means if you believe (fill blank) it becomes ones own truth.
Which then relates or leads to the point of "Plato's - The Cave".
The second area is, Absolute Truth. Which I perceive, we are incabable of understanding.
So I feel that "Toxic Positivity" definition is in relation and is be based on Perspective, Perception, and Lens.
Anything else, I perceive (see what I did there?) is beyond comprehension.

Managing One's emotions.
I would tell someone the same thing in a heartbeat. Most logical and good advice.
Doing it myself, a whole another level of OMG, Whiskey Tango, and ummmmm ummmm 'OK'

I am stellar with the acknowledging emotions. For me, understanding the whole process
Like "Take time to process those emotions"
What does that mean? How would I know if I am or am not?
I guess I get stuck or something with such things.

I guess it is accepting and welcoming your feeling like clouds. Understanding that the storms will pass, but they will also come back. Being positive is just trying your best, understanding that was your best regardless of how things turn out. I think it’s really hard to maintain a positive mindset 24/7 (or like for five minutes lol), but that’s what I believe in.

O can’t really read the post? The lettering is so close to the black background that…

but to answer the question… my idea of real positivity is being realistic but hopeful for positive outcomes.

Real positivity is hopefulness without ignoring the circumstances.
