Summer Kindness Bucket List Challenge
I have a list of things to do for others, our planet, the community, and yourself to give back with kindness. Here are a few things:
Pick up litter at a park, trail, or beach.
Write a thank you card to someone who quietly makes life better (custodian, bus driver, teacher)
Plant flowers for pollinators
Start a water bowl station for pets and wildlife.
Thanks for this Mishka, I have a few things I'm already doing or about to start:
- Cycling everywhere instead of using cars
- Cleaning off machines in the outdoor gym
- Running errands for elderly neighbours
- Leaving water out for the visiting hedgehogs
To do:
- Befriend the visiting feral cat
- Send letters/cards to seniors
- Donate more books to the local free library
Would love to hear everyone else's ideas for inspiration!
I’ve always loved sending cards to seniors and friends and penpals <3
@jesusredeemedme2425 it's great to hear from someone who already does this! When and how did you get started with it Kiara? Do you maintain regular correspondence with some of the people you write to, or is it a one-off type scemario?
Started penpals when I was a kid/teen, via my homeschool group :)
Sent letters to soldiers via a friend’s organization, then dated one of them <3 (Not recommended though! You never know who you’re talking to. I was blessed to find a great guy who wasn’t a weirdo tho lol)
Sent letters to seniors via a list from my church.
They were generally regular, but a lot were one-offs.
I think I may have made cards for kids in hospitals and also survivors of abuse, but I don’t remember how or where.
I also make encouraging Christmas cards, hand-drawn, every year. Almost 300 yearly <3
@DemiMondaine
How do you get the addresses to send to seniors? I would love to do this.
@Mishka1599 One website I've seen is 'Love for Our Elders', which is US-based, and it's dedicated to writing to seniors. There's also 'More Love Letters', which covers all ages and is also US-based. I'm on the lookout for European sites as well so will post again as soon as I've got a bit more on those.
@DemiMondaine found a website which lists a few more options:
Hi Mishka, thank you sharing your summer kindness bucket list.
My summer kindness bucket list is as follows:
This year I gave crocheted bracelets to my classmates on my birthday. Few of my classmates had brought me a journal as a gift my previous birthday. So I decided to give something in return.
I also made for one of my professors a crocheted hairtie.
We usually give food and drinks to people who come to our house for prayer.
We give money as well.
What I feel inspired to do in the future:
The idea of writing cards sounds great to me. I used to do that as a child. But I am looking forward to do that again when it is someone's birthday.
Thank you once again. This was fun. Have a great day!🌟😃🌟
