@jesusredeemedme2425

I wanna hug you for this one

So many questions I dont know what to ask xD

Is it...i dont know, fixed? I mean a lot of people talk about adulthood like once you decide your role in life you just. Cant change it. And youre stuck w that life now. And I get responsibility but this sounds kinda beyond that.

So do you get stuck?

User Profile: jesusredeemedme2425
jesusredeemedme2425 OP September 29th

Thought of you when I made it. <3

Do you mean like... your job? Or just your life choices?

@jesusredeemedme2425

🤍

Both, I guess?

Jobs can always be changed. School can lead to other jobs. That's always changeable.

I guess if you decide to go skydiving and break your legs, that would be a little permanent lol. Imma need more context here for what you mean lol

User Profile: magicallyApricot9947
magicallyApricot9947 September 29th

@unassumingEyes It isn't fixed. Some choices can be harder to undo and sometimes it hard to find the energy, but nothing is permanent.

Just as an example; my Aunt worked the counter at a supermarket until her early 30s when she switched it all up, moved to Scotland and got an apprenticeship working with steam trains. She's now one of the few experts on a particular type of train and takes part in conventions all over the world. Her life certainly wasn't fixed! Yours doesn't have to be either.

@unassumingEyes

The things I would suggest is if an offer sounds too good to be true, it likely is. If the offered payments or benefits sound disproportional to the skills or experience needed, or the actual work expected, then be suspicious.

Do your homework: If you see an advertisement for a role, check to see if it is advertised elsewhere and are those sources reliable. Check out the businesses/organisation's website...does the info from the website tally with what you are seeing on the job advert. (Also checking up about a organisation and learning a little about it is also good for being prepared at job interviews with them)

Check further info online about the organisation...is there anything anyone has posted about them? (Partnering organisations/former or current employees/users of their services or products). What are people saying about them? Is it good or bad? A lack of info on them doesn't necessarily mean it is a scam, but it should make you cautious.

Are they asking anything of you beyond what you would expect from.an employer? If they are asking you to pay for anything upfront...avoid! No employer should ask you for cash. (Some employers might require you to pay for uniforms/certain training/etc...but that should be handled through wage deductions and NOT as upfront costs). Likewise, if am organisation starts listing initial deductions which sound unreasonable, avoid.

Check out your countries employment laws. What are your rights, what must employers do, etc. you don't need to do a deep dive, just learn the basics of what is your rights...(Minimum wage/rules on internships/etc). If an advertised role is asking you to waive any rights, it probably is not somewhere you might want to consider working for.

Does the firm expect an unreasonable trial period? (I would be especially cautious around big holidays like Christmas where unscrupulous firms might hire on staff on extended trial periods to flex up during busy periods but without intending to offer a real job afterwards).

Does anything they say or do at the job interview make you wary or uncomfortable...ask them questions about it....a good organisation will see your questions as attentive and show you are thoughtful...a bad organisation will be dismissive or evasive.

If the opportunity arises, speak to those who have or do work for the employer...are they happy, do they speak well if the employer?

At the end of the day, trust your gut. If something feels off, question it...If questions don't give you satisfying answers, avoid it and look for a job elsewhere. And you can always refuse a job that is offered if it is not right for you.

I hope some of this might be helpful

@jesusredeemedme2425 If making friends is already an uphill battle as a teenager.. does it get even harder as an adult?

P.S. Thank you so much for this informative series, I’ve been loving seeing these questions and reading all the responses ✨🤍

User Profile: magicallyApricot9947

@QuietWillow00 When you're in school you're around a lot of people your own age and the assumption is that you'll find some common ground there.

That isn't the case for everyone, schools have cliques and sometimes we just feel so different to our peers.

As an adult some people find friends in a work place, but most will find it in some outside interest. This can be much easier for those of us who didn't make friends easily at school, because it relates to an interest you have. You might have to reach out to a group to join, whether it's a hiking group, miniature painting, rock climbing, book club etc etc.

It isn't always easy to go out of your comfort zone and join these things, but it isn't a given that if you found it difficult making friends at school that you'll find it harder as an adult.

I think as an adult, it's actually been easier for me to make friends, but it's been harder to stay in touch or actually meet up with new friends to hang out or something.

I think the response above mine is spot on. As an adult, you at least don't have to worry about popularity. Work can offer friends, and getting out to do personal interest stuff or sometimes going to random community events can be really helpful for it.

Its a running joke that adults only hang out every 6 months or whatever lol! Work gets in the way of hanging out lol

I am 16, and I'm hyping myself up for when I'm adult. I hope to go to college, graduate early (17), go to school to be a vet tech, move to Colorado, get a good paying job and live a comfortable life. I'm not the kind who wants to go travel around the world, but I do love traveling. My mom loves to travel and so we have went to many beautiful places. They want to travel home when me and my sister leave. I want to move into a different start and work and be myself. I do have to hide some of my interest and style. I always image myself as this cool kind girl, all cute and boho, has dogs as her kids (I also don't want kids and my mom has never pushed it on me in this economy, she says it would be easier without them- and I completely agree), go to a lot of concerts, get tattoos for my favorite songs and bands, and have a cozy home. Basically be the me I have been covering. I'm not sure if I will get married, I hope to, I just know that I'm so shy and It's going to be an experience with dating. But part of me knows I'm going to be stressed, I am so worried I wont make enough money, or be able to even pass vet school. I'm scared of being alone in a house, I am scared I wont be able to care for my dogs etc.
