Thankful Recovering Addict Named Snowy ♡
Hi everyone, over the years you may have seen me post here and there about my struggles. Today, I want to talk about something different. I want to talk about what I’m grateful for.
I am grateful for so much, but I was never grateful in the past. Gratitude is something new to me. I figured I’d share here, where nobody really knows me. I am grateful for the following:
My engagement to my fiancé, and him as a person
Narcotics Anonymous
My care team (doctor, psychiatrist, therapist, case manager)
My close family
My close friends
My bugs (Giant Canyon isopods)
My other pets (Leopard gecko, Rizzy. Tuxedo cat, Teal’c)
Being clean and serene for almost 60 days
Books, so I can read and learn
7 Cups
A *** group called “Feather Survivors”
My ESSAs (Emotional Support Stuffed Animals)
My GLP-1 injections for my drug-induced obesity
Job placement services
My journal
My mind
Fountain sodas
My truck
Money
Cigarettes
My health appointments
My body
Holidays
Work
IMVU
***
Soft blankets
Water
Makeup
Food
Having a place to live
Medications
That’s all I can think of for now. I am so thankful to be living the life I’m living. I finally love life! I’m starting to overcome my CPTSD, my mental illnesses are going into remission. I am sober. I am happy. I am me. ♡

Congratulations on your sobriety!! I am so proud of you for reaching out and getting the help you needed. I am a fellow Narcotics Anon/Alcoholics Anon with 15 years sobriety. I remember those first months. Things are new, and sometimes it takes a while to understand what people mean when they say they're grateful.
After all, how can you be grateful you were an addict, right? I wondered this when I was new, and I heard a gentleman introduce himself "Hi my name is Joe (not his name lol) and I'm a grateful alcoholic." Grateful?? I thought. Who is grateful this happened? Well, I am. I wouldn't have met all of the wonderful people who are now a part of my life, and I wouldn't be posting you this message right now. It's nice to see others in sobriety who are understanding just what it means to be grateful. Please feel free to reach out if you would ever like to talk.
Hi there, thank you so very much for your kindness!! Congratulations on your sobriety as well!! 15 years is a dream to me. Yes, things are still fairly new to me, and I was confused when people would use the word “grateful”.
I’m so glad that you were able to find gratitude!! I agree, I wouldn’t have met so many wonderful people either, and I wouldn’t be here talking with you now. It is so nice!! And thank you for the offer!! I appreciate your words <3
Living with gratitude is a world apart from not having it in life. Gratitude is most of what keeps me going (clean or even just alive at all). Thank you for sharing your joy. As a recovering addict myself, seeking the positive every day keeps me living.
I am so happy for you and so proud of you for not giving up. You are an inspiration my friend. May your life be filled with wonderful experiences.
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate your kind words. I hope your life is filled with wonderful experiences as well!!
