Things People Who Cope With Loneliness Wish You Knew

If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?

If you’re not on this journey, please share insights you’ve learned while interacting with those who are, whether family, friends, or anyone else. Share things you’ve read, and ask if they’re true. Share beliefs that you have, ask questions, and more! This is a safe space where you can learn about things you’ve never experienced. <3

Let’s have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation among friends! As a song in one of the Land Before Time movies says, “It takes all sorts to make a world!” <3

i very much have that alien feeling. there are people in my life that i'm close to, and i don't usually have to be alone if i don't want to, but i never lose the feeling of being lonely. i don't know if it's being autistic or growing up in a loud household as someone who needed some quiet, whatever it is, i don't really feel like i understand humans. that is, i get why they do what they do, but it's so stupid that i really don't know how they can actually do it. to the degree that they feel like a different species to me and always have.

wouldn't it suck if we were each our own different kind of alien? 😉

It's weird isn't it? Sometimes we want to be alone but then we feel lonely but even with a lot of people around us, we still feel lonely. But when we're surrounded with people, we want to be alone.

This isnt a choice. Connection with people is hard. Its not that we dont try, its that we feel unacceptable.

I often feel lonely even when I’m surrounded by people that love me. I can feel lonely in a room full of people. I find myself isolating without knowing why. Maybe it’s because I don’t feel accepted even though I know I am? I guess it’s a type of social anxiety. It’s something I’ve got to work on.
