Things People Who Have ADD/ADHD Wish You Knew

If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?

If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

One more thing, many ADHD people suffer with emotionally:

RSD, or Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, is arguably one of the most intense and least understood parts of having ADHD. The word dysphoria literally translates from Greek to difficult to bear, and that perfectly describes how it feels. It is essentially an extreme emotional sensitivity and pain triggered by the perception that I have been rejected, teased, or criticized by important people in my life, or that I have failed to meet my own (or others') expectations. RSD isn't exclusive to ADHD, but it's hugely prevalent.

To sum it up Lorelai can’t take criticism. Gilmore are emotionally cold and often overly critical hence whey she felt slighted by them especially Emily all the time. Whenever, someone even max calls her out “will you think about someone else,” well she shut down. I think this is when, she called off the wedding and ran off. Same woman, doesn’t have many friends is overly codependent on Rory and cuts her out and Luke when she feels they let her down. Apple doesn’t fall far from tree, while Rory is quiet, she goes on to be unable to talk criticism. Hyper focuses only, one thing (school), later on boyfriend Logan. Or even Jess, when she misses her mom’s graduation. All meanwhile, she struggles to be social or even make more than one friend besides lane and later Paris. Mitchum, could have been playing Rory so that, she becomes another Emily for his son to marry. But know, Rory is butt hurt and goes off and gives up right after stealing the boat.

A little poem I made a while back about ADHD I've had it my whole life and this poem has helped me hopefully it might help you 😁

"Please Don’t Call It Careless”

My mind is not a quiet room—

it’s ten radios, all on different stations,

volume knobs missing.

I don’t forget because I don’t care.

I forget because everything

feels important at once—

and somehow nothing stays long enough

to be held.

I start with fire—

bright, unstoppable, alive—

but somewhere between step three and four,

the flame flickers

not from lack of passion,

but from too many winds.

Time slips.

Not slowly, not kindly—

but like water through open hands.

Five minutes becomes fifty,

and I swear I didn’t feel it pass.

Please understand—

I am trying.

Even when it looks like I’m not.

Especially then.

My “later” is not laziness,

my silence is not indifference,

my chaos is not a choice I made.

There are days

I climb mountains inside my head

just to answer a message,

just to begin,

just to stay.

And oh—when I love,

I love in constellations.

In deep dives and sudden joy,

in remembering the smallest things

and forgetting the obvious ones.

I notice everything—

the way your voice changes

when you're tired,

the exact shade of the sky

when something feels off—

but I might still lose my keys

while holding them.

I am contradiction.

I am intensity.

I am exhaustion wrapped in energy.

So when you see me struggle,

don’t ask why I don’t just “try harder.”

Sit with me instead—

in the noise, in the unfinished,

in the almost.

Because what I want you to know is this:

I am not broken.

I am overwhelmed in a world

that rarely slows down enough

to meet me where I am.

But if you’re patient—

if you listen—

if you stay—

you’ll see

there is brilliance here too.
