Things People Who Have Acne Wish You Knew
If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?
If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

When I hit puberty, I started getting acne. A lot of it. They were big, pus-filled bumps. At one point, a classmate asked me if I had chickenpox. I still haven’t forgotten that, even after so many years. The vain attempts to make me insecure. Sigh.
As I grew older and out of my teens, the breakouts reduced significantly, partly because I had to follow a dermatologist-prescribed routine. I also adopted a healthier diet, restricted my sugar and milk intake. But the scars remain. I get asked how I got them, as if people don’t know what acne scars are.
I’ve learned to embrace those minuscule scars because I’m not an actress who is supposed to have flawless, spotless skin. I’m human, and I can have flaws. My flaws don't get to define me.
My acne is my problem and none of your damn business. I will deal with my skin issues myself. Please do not sympathize with me or tell me that my acne scars are a stain on my beauty. It’s distasteful.
Acne can be due to underlying conditions as simple as dandruff or PCOS. Please get it checked as soon as you can. Treatment sought in the early stages gives better results compared to later stages.

I never thought they were concidered flaws🤔
I always thought they looked cute😭 guess I was living in a cave all these years👻
@curiousbookishness
Well in that case, you're a literal gem! 💎
Thank you for being sweet! ❤️
Seriously,like i just looked it up on youtube and acne sure was called a nightmare🤔
Well I think we get new prespectives every day💁♂️
Aww thanks for the big diamond😭 hugs 🤗but litrary like everyone around me thinks almost the same.like i asked one of my freind and he said they are alitle ichy but adds to the charm🤦♂️
@curiousbookishness
I've not yet met people that kind. I've always been judged even if I had a single active pimple on my face. They'll ask me, "did you eat a lot of mangoes?", "is your cycle close?", etc.
Let a woman breathe!
Why mangoes???
@jesusredeemedme2425
Ayurveda believes that mangoes increase body “heat,” which can potentially lead to skin inflammation or acne in people who are prone to it.
Mangoes do not directly cause acne but can trigger breakouts due to their high sugar content, high glycemic index (GI), and potential allergic reactions to sap, particularly in sensitive individuals. (Google)
Had no idea, thanks! <3
Its our rigional thingy👻
@trueconfidant123 I can relate to this. I also had many acne on my face during puberty, it was really bad and painful :( and made me feel very insecure about my skin in school. It was mainly cus of me being overweight, My poor diet and dandruffs. My mom always use to tell us not to pick at them... so I used to try my best not to pop any of those. Now it's almost all gone and clear after using some dermatologists face-wash and weightless ❤️
Dermatologist-prescribed facewash and creams*
@fossilfellow
I'm glad to hear that your skin has cleared up. Following a derm prescribed routine religiously is always the way to go.
My skin has cleared up too. I've been following an elaborate derm prescribed routine for quite sometime. It really paid off!
@teueconfidant123 Yupp, I'm glad it's working for you too ❤️🤗
@trueconfidant123 * <3
@fossilfellow
Yep. Life's not the same. There's an influx of dms every time I post a picture of me. People compliment my glow up and approach me for skincare tips. I feel like Princess Mia. 😂😂

@trueconfidant123 😂😂💝

People are mean… I’m so sorry :’(
@jesusredeemedme2425
❤️
That it's super annoying when people want to pop your pimples!
@Torean
I wonder how they're audacious enough!
People find it satisfying, I guess? They are particularly audacious though... I never let anyone do it, you're not supposed to pop them. Then they tend to insist at least twice before giving up. It's like trying to get rid of a salesman.
This is both “ew” and “lol”. Like WHY PEOPLE XD
@jesusredeemedme2425
I swear. I would be weirded out.
I once had a friend put her finger up my nose... 😅 Out of nowhere
I’m sorry WHY???? Lol
To see if I'd let her do it. I was like "Oh... You're picking my nose...?" She lost it. She was like "Only you! Anyone else would freak out! Literally ANYONE, except YOU!"
....I still wouldn't let anyone pop my zits though.
You’re… interesting, Tor. XD hehe jk!!!
Like most, my acne and scarring was the worst when I was pre-teen/teen but a lot of people around me had the same issue.
Mine were sugar, pmt and maybe due to not using the right skincare. I did my own homework but what I find unforgivable was pleading with others to share their remedies and them refusing, making out they had natural flawlessness.
Later on I discovered the truth, they were all using a hormonal pill. For my research, multivitamins helped, oil free creams, avoiding witch hazel, aloe vera and tea tree oil was better too.
Also a face brush gives a deeper clean, than just using your hands. Sometimes I have breakouts still but they don't last.
@ScrabbleBrain
Face brush isn't harsh for the skin?
@trueconfidant123 A scrub definitely is too rough for combination skin. A face brush usually has different heads and some are so so soft, that it's perfect for someone's preference.
Weirdly enough I prefer the firmer one, it removes makeup, gives me a massage, firms my skin and deep cleans.
When using wipes or my hands, I didn't realise some of the makeup still remained, when using the brush, all gone. It's personal preference, I didn't spend a lot of money, I got a cheap one :)
What’s combination skin?
@jesusredeemedme2425 there's dry skin, oily skin, or a combination of both oily and dry. My face/hair have to be divas, so they are both 😂
@ScrabbleBrain
How can something be oily and dry at the same time?? Lol
@jesusredeemedme2425 sounds weird and sometimes not at the same time, ha. My hair has dry roots, greasy ends.
My face can be dry around the edges, cheeks, oily lol :)
@ScrabbleBrain
Are you me? 😂🫂
@trueconfidant123 That gave me a belly laugh, lil clone. I can't credit I'm as adorable as you 🥰😂
@ScrabbleBrain
@trueconfidant123 Belts out Lady Marmalade failing to hit every top note and forgetting the lyrics, the plot, my own name 🎵
But smiling through it all 👄
@ScrabbleBrain
We rock even when we fail to recollect the lyrics 💃🏻🤝🏻😂
@trueconfidant123 Too true lovely 🤩
@ScrabbleBrain
I'm never not True 😉
@trueconfidant123 Even when you're trying to politely wriggle out of something? I porky pig it sometimes, people don't always get the hint, it's unappealing 😳🥺
@ScrabbleBrain
Honestly, I tell them straight up to just 😂

@trueconfidant123 Admirable people just pester and weigh me down so I usually say struck with hormones. Can't see straight 😂
@ScrabbleBrain
I told you we are alike 🤣
@trueconfidant123 I got busted on it though. You always say that. I just blinked and said, really? Huh, timing is just off....
(please don't press me, running out of excuses) 😂
@ScrabbleBrain
I'll give you time to process and come up with better excuses. 😂
@trueconfidant123 I shall learn much, wise, all excusing one 🙇♀️😌
@ScrabbleBrain
As you wish!
@ScrabbleBrain
I see. I still feel like it's not worth using long term. They may damage the skin barrier. But that's just my personal opinion.
Just be kind , yes we know there is acne on our face there is redness just doint point it out like you discover something that we haven't seen till now , act like a human don't dramatize acne like so much big it will make people feel worse.
@jesusredeemedme2425
the most annoying part was listening to people who themselves have never experienced acne and still giving useless advices unnecessarily
