Things Wiccans Wish You Knew
If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?
If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

@jesusredeemedme2425 Looking forward to this thread ❤️
I don't claim to be Wiccan, but I used to date a Wiccan
So, #1... Wiccan Sabbats (holidays) are a blast. Litha, in particular was always fun. Things like growing flowers, making wreaths, had a bonfire with friends, and made honey cakes as offerings to faeries.
#2 is really important. It is such a gentle way of life. Please, throw any stereotypes about witches out the window when it comes to Wiccans. Like, yeah, it's a Pagan religion with spells, but the absolute number one and most important rule to Wiccan magic is "Harm None". Basically, no ill intent is allowed. Because, when it comes to it, Wicca is largely about thankfulness and appreciation for nature, beauty, and all the love and positivity in this world. So, the magic should be directing energies towards goodness, in a sense.
#3 There is no dogma. There are a main male and female diety, but it's not as much about directly worshipping them. It's more about what they represent. The goddess is particularly celebrated, and is considered the creator. (She is three things at once: the maiden for things like youth and wonder, the mother for things like fertility and nurturing, and the crone for things like wisdom.). As such, women are highly respected. But as for how to honor them, or any others that are mentioned? You can personalize that. Celebrate what you want, seek wisdom in the ways you want... It's suggested to stay close to nature and stay open to the good side of things. But individualism is important too, and it's basically only strict in the way of trying to live with the best intentions. Sense of humor and enjoying yourself is important as well!
#4, Wiccans generally just want to be respected, and they want to respect you too.
Me, personally? I don't know what actual beliefs I fall into, but I can say that learning about Wicca and participating in it was a fully positive and fun experience. 10/10, would love to revisit it sometime.
Also, feel free to fact check me. I'm not an expert, but I sincerely hope that my take was accurate.
Great explanation, thanks!
