What is something you loved doing as a child?
hello lovely community ❤️
i feel like when we were younger, we used to do things purely out of joy despite being bad or good at it. maybe some of you enjoyed painting, dancing, singing ... it could be anything, even something small such as petting the neighbour's dog.
When we grow up however, we kind of lose our connection to the things that bring us joy because of our busy everyday lives. But our inner child is still always with us, even if we do not see or feel it. So today I would love to discuss with you - what is something you loved doing as a child?

Hey! I've had to take on a shit-ton of adult rules: Wife, Mom, Business Owner, Girl-Scout Leader, Crazy Lady, Weird Artist.... those are the nice labels!
Sometimes, all the requests that come along with those labels suck and try to force me to forget who I am now, as well as my "inner child."
F-that. I am an artist. I'm good at what I do because practice and persistence paid off. Stubbornness and the willingness to ignore negative opinions keeps me going. Raising independent women who have self-confidence, and trying to be that person myself? LOL, That's a bit too flowery, but I try.
I never really feel older by choice. I happen to pass by a lot of mirrors! :) BOO.
Love keeps me, me.
@AveryLove
What a brilliant question! ❤ Being in the woods always brought me joy as a kid. Running around with our pet dogs and playing hide and seek. Great fun!

Thanks for this question. This took me back to some good memories. I miss spending entire days outside sun up to sun down, away from a screen, away from everything, simply enjoying the day and the world and letting my imagination be free, not worried about or feeling tied down by anything. And if i’m being completely honest, also low key miss making blanket tents and squirt gun/water balloon fights. :)
@MarP
Adult blanket forts should definitely be a thing! I love how you've described the care free aspect of being a child, very relatable, thank you!

I miss spending whole days playing complicated video games with my brother. Building a nest of blankets and carefully recording plans and actions on paper as we played. Now there is just a feeling of what I should be doing in that time. Even if there is a day "free" somewhere, hard to imagine a whole week of being able to waste every single day.
@AveryLove
Hiya, Avery! Thank you for the question <3
I absolutely LOVED creating art as a kid--drawing, painting, crafting. 🥰
I agree with what you said--as we grow up, we may lose connection to some of these precious simple things that we loved. Not only do we get busier, but we also might put more unrealistic expectations on ourselves to give something better. I struggle with perfectionism; it's even difficult to start scribbling something on a scrap piece of paper because I'm afraid I'll get disappointed by my result.
I really missed how carefree I was when I was younger. I'm looking to learn from that part of me again. The way children see and explore the world truly is fascinating. How easy it is for them to find abundant happiness everywhere!
I'm trying to get back into making art again. Just for myself, without overthinking the results. Trying to just trust the process and accept whatever comes out. :)
@SilverSeastar
I can really relate to those feelings of perfectionism when it comes to creating art/craft. It's hard for me to feel loose and go with the flow but I attend an online life drawing class once a month and to start with we do very short sketches with our non dominant hand. It's quite good at setting the tone of silliness! Love your idea of starting an art journal, wish you all the best with it!

@gentleFox20
Ah, that sounds like so much fun, Fox 😛 I will try that out, thanks for the idea! It's fantastic that you attend a drawing class once a month, consistency is powerful. 🦾
I loved to draw when I was a kid and teenager.... But totally stopped when I became an adult. I used to like to copy or recreate other drawings/cartoons/album covers/cereal boxes etc... I found some stuff I drew years ago, and it was pretty good for a kid with no training. I just never thought I was good at it back then and no one encouraged me, so it was just a hobby.
@AveryLove
I loved going to stay with my grandparents on their farm during the summer when I was little. It was a safe, loving place. I especially loved 'going to the tunnel.' My aunt, the youngest in the family would shout out some hot afternoons, "Who wants to go to the tunnel!?" All the cousins would shout back, "Me! Me! Me!" This was a trek through a field, climbing over a pasture fence (not to mention what we 'sometimes' ran into IN the field at our feet, lol). Then there was a woods with a tidy cow path and then traveling along the top side of the tunnel outside siding till it met the tracks and then go back on the tracks to the mouth of the tunnel. I remember going all the way through it once. This was way before they turned it into a bike path. Anyway...that is definitely one of my most favorite things to do as a kid. Second would be licking out grandma's bowls and beaters when she was baking goodies.
Thanks for asking. Made for remembering some very happy memories.
@EmbStitcher33
Awww this is lovely! Really made me smile 🥰

As an adult with ADHD, im still as curious as I was as when I was a kid. I still like collecting musical instruments and figuring out how they work and how they contribute to ensembles. I also like taking long walks in the city (unfortunately there are no parks nearby unlike where I grew up) and just take in all of the sensations the world has to offer.
Of course, being a student doctor, I can't always do these but I try to sneak some of it in my life to keep me grounded and sane.
@AveryLove I loved playing on the swing
As a child i loved collecting things, having a collection of different items like erasers, silly bands etc @AveryLove
@colourfulVision12
I collected paper match books was a kid... 😊
