P&G Check-in: 11 January - 17 January 2021

Hello Wonderful People of Positivity & Gratitude Community !
I wish you are having a nice time these days !
The topic I came out for this check-in is:
“Finding great value in small things.”
Appreciating and being grateful for the smallest good things in our life, is a powerful positive habit to cultivate.
By identifying and focusing on the simple and small good things that surround us, we can both train our “Positivity and Gratitude” skills, and greatly enrich our lives.
In her beautiful article “Romanticize your life”, in this community’s Discussions section, @lumieremilkyway highlights the importance of “giving ordinary things in life an intention to exist and be there, and love them in their simplicity.” She goes on to propose a series of practical, actionable things we can do to cultivate this healthy meaning-giving attitude. (Read the full article HERE).
Giving depth and meaning to the ordinary things that surround us, we can contribute to make our life richer and better, no matter what our general situation.
These “tiny good things” sometimes are messengers of something bigger, that speaks of the wonder of it all.
For example, when we appreciate the beauty of a simple flower (not to mention an orchid or a rose), we connect with its almost magical, fragile existence, with the wonder of life, and with our human capacity for conscious appreciation of beauty.
All big good things we can’t take for granted.
This time of appreciation creates the space for a moment of gratitude and joy.
We can collect these moments throughout the day. Feeling thankful for a cup of tea or coffee, for a nice piece of clothing, the food we eat, the light and warmth of the Sun, a nice small-talk with someone, the comfort of our bed as we prepare to sleep…
We are surrounded by an infinitude of good small things we can focus on, appreciate, and feel grateful for.
Questions:
1 – How do you feel today ?
2 – What small things you have recently enjoyed and felt grateful for ?
I look forward to your answers, and wish you all the best !

1 – How do you feel today ?
I'm feeling good now.
2 – What small things you have recently enjoyed and felt grateful for ?
I have 2 things that I would like to share:
A) Electricity! I woke up at 3 am because the power went off and it was getting cold in the house. The power company came out and had it working again in no time but I am very thankful to have electricity today!!
B) Naps! It's been cold and rain / snow here lately so I wasn't feeling 100% today (a little run down) but I was able to take a nap midday and now I feel well rested again.
Sher
@Sher217
Dear Sher:
I am glad to know you are feeling well.
Electricity: you are right ! We usually take for granted the vast infrastructure that makes life possible for millions and billions of people. Electricity was once a luxury, but now it's a necessity. It powers our refrigerators, pumps the water that comes to our homes, and the lighting that makes our streets and highways safer, among hundreds of life-sustaining things. It also makes our lives more comfortable and interesting, from powering the computers and the internet network that connects us to the world and let us do amazing things, to air conditioning, heating, TV, and indoor lighting to name a few.
We usually don't notice these extremely valuable things, that we enjoy because we happen to be born this time in history. They are not to be taken for granted, a lot of ingenuity and hard work went to develop and build those. When you have lost electrical power, once regained, you feel grateful every time you turn on the lights or open your refrigerator, to name a few...
Naps: It's said that the natural sleeping cycle of Homo Sapiens and previous hominids (our genetic makeup formed over millions of years), always included naps. For most of history, 99% of the population were peasants that started early, stopped at noon, had lunch, took a nap, and resumed when the sun wasn´t that hard anymore. In many traditional societies and rural places, it's part of daily life even today.
Some high tech and other avant-garde companies are starting to build "nap places" in their buildings for their employees. It's increasingly being recognized that taking a nap is the natural thing to do. It feels so good ! And it makes you feel rested, anew to continue the next half of the day.
Naps are a form of self-care and self-love. You go against the flow that says you should be always active, to proclaim the right to take care of yourself.
And indulge in such a healthy self-pampering.
You should be very grateful to you for loving so much and taking proper care of yourself. A necessary condition to give the same to others.
"Never give from the depths of your well, but from your overflow." Rumi.
such a beautiful check-in! honestly love the layout
thank you so much for linking my forum thread, it means a lot to me that you wish more people read it and find it helpful. I love how you also extended that idea in this check-in and gave a glimpse of it to so many people here.
1 – How do you feel today?
I feel exhausted today, tbh. had a long day, today I went to school physically. I was dehydrated and also had a bad headache. I slept but I just feel more tired after sleeping. hoping to feel better soon.
2 – What small things you have recently enjoyed and felt grateful for?
I felt grateful for the anime. I personally enjoy watching them and they instantly put me in a good mood. I also feel grateful for sleep because I have been sleep-deprived for a while now and I am seeking it more and more these days.
thank you for this check-in!
@lumieremilkyway
Dear Lumie:
Thank you for checking in ! And for your warm compliments!
I think the topics of your Discussion and this Check-In promote the same kind of ideas. Your Discussion is way more original, and ends with practical tips, so this Check-In gains more depth while read together, also complementing its format, which ends just with a question.
I am sorry that you feel so exhausted. You seem a very conscientious person. It shows in your high-quality work here, and surely also in your studies. Maybe you should keep aware of that, to not exert yourself too much, and relax more often.
Regarding dehydration, there are some apps that remind you to drink enough water throughout the day: https://www.healthline.com/health/hydration-top-iphone-android-apps-drinking-water
To improve sleep, maybe a body-scan or some other relaxation technique before falling asleep could help. There are many good audios at the 7Cups "Mindfulness" section https://www.7cups.com/exercises/mindfulness and also in youtube channels like Headspace https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW8o3_GFoCBOAwxWmQYN2iSBCjVLyNYz0
It's great that you have found in Anime a source of wellbeing and life inspiration. An that you feel grateful for it.
Many people are involved in the production of such works of art. Directors, screenwriters, drawers, musicians. The skill, creativity and hard work of each of them contribute to the beauty of the final product, like the magnificent Studio Ghibli films.
All these things are not to be taken for granted, because we could actually function without art. The world could exist without it. So we should be grateful that they exists to feed our soul.
Sleep is such a mistery... Why do we need to sleep one-third of our life ? But without it, we are done.
We should be grateful for a good, resting night of deep sleep. Good sleep nights are becoming increasingly rare.
So they are like jewels in our life, to be savored and appreciated!
Sleep well, Lumie, you are a jewel too !
1 – How do you feel today ?
I feel better after reading your post :) .Also lumie wrote a very nice post before.
2 – What small things you have recently enjoyed and felt grateful for ?
I am grateful for that we can atleast go outside now and do a bit of shopping albeit with masks on. I hope I continue to focus on my health in future. And I am enjoying my daily cup of tea or coffee or just warm milk with sugar.
Very nice post. Small things we do everyday is so important to lift our mood. Take care ☺️
@Actuallynobody017
Thank you for your kind words !
I am glad my post was so uplifting to you !
I agree that Lumie's article is wonderful and helpful.
You are right to be grateful for being able to enjoy the outside. With its fresh air, sunlight, and open feeling. This pandemic let us appreciate these good things that we have always taken for granted. Hopefully, we will continue to appreciate and be grateful for them after this epidemic ends.
Enjoying a cup of tea or coffee is one of the greatest small pleasures in life. I am glad you daily take the time to enjoy it to the fullest.
Thank you for checking in !
Keep in touch !

I agree with you that this pandemic had made us realise the small things we take for granted.I really hope we continue to respect our need to socialize, privacy as well as health instead of trying to fill out lives with only material possessions.
Thanks for the reply. Have a good day/evening.
1 – How do you feel today ?
I feel great! For once I slept really good and feel rested.
2 – What small things you have recently enjoyed and felt grateful for ?
Getting to go to the public library for the first time in a year. <3
Moving back in with my mom to support her.
Living closer to nature vs downtown. Much more quieter and zen.
Reconnecting with friends in my hometown.
@Flika89
I am glad you can sleep well and wake up rested. It makes all the difference for your wellbeing the rest of the day.
Great that you could go again to the public library ! It's the best place for long hours of focused study, without distractions. When you look around all you see is people reading in silence. Like it's the right thing to do there. So you get back to your book. At home, you think "I'll take a minute to do this or that..." and zap ! you get lost in distractions maybe for hours...
It's wonderful that you get along so well with your mother, and enjoy living with her and supporting her in her daily life. Also that you re-connected with old friends. There is something particularly comforting about being with old friends. Makes you feel at home in this world.
And you are very lucky to live close to nature. It feeds your soul, and connects you with the wonder of life and the beauty of the outdoors. Priceless things !
Thank you for checkin-in !
All the best !
Marcelo.
@WelcomeToChat I'm feeling exhausted physically and mentally.
Things I have been grateful for lately are my few friends that have stuck beside me through all the negativity and pain and misery I've been through.
@HelpfulSensitiveCaring
Thank you for checkin in ¡
I’m sorry that you feel so bad.
If you wish, could you tell us a little bit more about why you are so exhausted ?
Friends are a treasure in bad times. You also get to know then who are really true friends that will stand by you no matter what.
Having long talks with real friends is the most therapeutic thing you can do.
I wish you the best,
Marcelo.
