P&G Check-in: 28 December 2020 - 3 January 2021

WelcomeToChat December 28th, 2020

Hello Wonderful People of Positivity & Gratitude Community !

I wish you have a wonderful time these very special days !

I took the inspiration for this, my first check-in, from @lumieremilkyway 's fantastic article on Hope. If you have not yet, read it now ! Here it is: “Hope can transform our lives

New Hopes for a New Year

The year 2020 was challenging for all of us. The pandemic set a background of fear, worry and sad news. It interrupted face-to-face group activities, thwarted friend and family meetings, trips and vacation plans.

Notwithstanding, good things happened in 2020, from our personal life, to Humankind as a whole, like the strengthened feeling of belonging to one Humanity, one huge family of human beings facing together common threats and problems.

It also made us value things we had taken for granted (it is said that we value things more when we lose them...)

And now, things are finally getting better.

The end is in sight.

Questions for this check-in:

1. How are you doing today ?

2. What are your best hopes for 2021 ?

I look forward to your answers, and wish you all the best !

@Sher217

Dear Sher:

Wow ! That was fast !

I'm glad that you feel well today.

Time spent with your family will never be too much. Even years or decades after, you will always feel happy and proud about it, and will never regret.

Focusing on yourself, your challenges, growing, and improving as a person, are demanding, valuable, and inspiring goals. Like the Tao Te Ching says, "Knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering yourself is true power."

They are also consistent with the importance you give to your family. The stronger, healthier, more skillful you become as a person, the more you will be able to promote their flourishing.

I congratulate you on your attitude, and wish you all the luck in advancing this noble path.

Thank you for posting in this Check-In !

Marcelo.

@nordurnStar

Hi !

It's great and meritorious that even facing complex situations, you stay mindful and conscious of it all, instead of evading reality.

And... congratulations on your upcoming graduation !

Regarding travel, 2021 will finally allow us to do it again.

Traveling alone is a great life experience. You connect deeper with the local people, make new friends, and besides, you have the freedom to tailor your plans to your exact taste. You also gain a lot of self-confidence and reliance on your own capabilities and life skills.

I wish you that, after graduation, you enjoy all the calm and time to read to your content on the subjects that interest you most, and the creativity and energy to develop your own ideas in writing.

All the luck in the world in this new, exciting phase of your life !

Thank you very much for your post.

Keep in touch !

Marcelo

@CompassionCake

I am happy that you could manage to feel well, at the end of a difficult month and a difficult year.
I hope you find a strong trust in your wisdom and inner compass, and totally validate your own choices.
Acceptance seems to be a big issue for you. All I can say is that self-acceptance is a lot more important than acceptance by others.
I reccomend you the meditations and talks in the 7 Cups "Path" - "Mindfulness Exercises" menu, by Tara Brach under the "Meditations" section, and of Jon Kabat Zinn under the "Uncategorized" section. They are great teachers that have specialized in self-acceptance.
I find your hopes for 2021 very wise. Self-acceptance and contentment (which are related) bring you peace, satisfaction, and a feeling of being at home in the world. Gratitude, besides being ethical, is the greatest source of joy.
I wish you that these wise ideals become real and strong during 2021, the bedrock for a life full of joy, peace, and love.

@quietPlane9908

Hi !

I'm sorry that you feel so bad. Could you tell us a little more about your feelings ?

It's not uncommon that people feel sad around these dates. It is almost unavoidable that we "make a balance sheet" for the last year or even our life until now, and we measure it against our expectations. We also remember and miss people we lost in a way or another, we would particularly like they were with us at this time.

So, there are many and strong reasons to feel sad as a year finishes and another begins.

And here comes the role of Hope, to rescue us from all these "reasonable" sad feelings, by believing something good can happen to us. Hope can be cultivated through concrete actions, and make us feel better, little by little.

All these ideas are explained in the article by @lumieremilkyway (in the Discussions section of this SubCommunity): “Hope can transform our lives

I took them from there, and as I say at the beginning of this check-in, I strongly recommend you reading it. Practicing Hope might help you achieve your wishes for 2021, of feeling happier and smiling often.

Again, if you feel like it, share with us a little more about your feelings by posting down here.

I also offer you to talk in a 1-to-1 chat. You can leave me a message to arrange a chat at: 7cups.com/@WelcomeToChat

I wish you all the best !

Marcelo.

@WelcomeToChat

thank you, I'd check the link. I believe it's good to have "hope" and positive thinkings. However, having too much hope can lead me to "false hope" due to my excessive imagination, and it hurts me in return.

Thank you and I'll connect you soon 😊

@quietPlane9908

You are right, you need to have reasonable expectations, otherwise, it can backfire in the end. There comes another virtue: "Contentment", feeling satisfied with those feasible outcomes we can truly hope for.

There must be a balance, it's about being "reasonably optimistic" (not delusional) and enjoying the good things, even the little ones, that life brings us.

I look forward to your message.

All the best,

Marcelo.
