Self-Compassion - Notes from Discussion!
Self-Compassion - Notes from Discussion!
The pop-up discussion took place in Compassion Corner which was led by me and moderated by Eccho.
It has like goals to understand the significance of self-compassion to improve one's happiness. To know about the hindrances and potential ways to be more self-compassionate so that it could help us to be better and create a better community.
Let's start with defining self-compassion
---> Self compassion means being compassionate with yourself.
---> Try to understand and accept the way you think and act!
---> Most of us try to be compassionate to others but some times, doing so we lose compassion towards oneself.
---> It means to be supportive and understandable when faced with shortcomings, failures, mistakes, regrets.
What are the hindrances to self-compassion?
---> "I don't deserve" perception. Some times, one thinks that he doesn't deserve good things. Failures, struggles are in his fate. He can't change this. And doesn't deserve better. It stops one to be self-compassionate towards oneself.
---> Mistakes. Human tends to make mistakes. It is one of the better ways to learn and grow. But, sometimes one blame himself or others for his mistakes quite often which lead to unhappiness.
---> Not receiving compassion from OTHERS. If you're not recieving compassion from others, you may feel like you're good for nothing and it leads to sadness, frustrations.
----> Rely on other's judgement. Most of the time, most of us believe on what others say. If someone said that, you made a big mistake and other discouraging words. You start believing that it is true rather than focusing on what you learned from it. And, it leads to unhappiness.
---> So, many hindrances exist which obstructs the way of self-compassion and happiness.
What one can DO?
---> Have Good Boundaries. Setting good boundaries with yourself and others allow you to be specific with what you do and why. When boundaries are defined, thoughts become more organized and clear. It helps you to focus on the reason of an event and let you understand things, events in a better way. It makes you feel self-compassionate towards yourself. You focus on making better choices and decisions.
---> Being around positive people. When you're with positive people, you actually think, behave and act like them. Even as per researches, it is proved that you're the average of 5 people with whom you spend most of your time. So, if you be with positive people, it'll cultivate good thoughts and allow you to find good in everything. It improves your self-compassion level.
---> Accepting, Forgiving, Learning from your mistakes and failures. Instead of regretting and blaming, when you start accepting your mistakes and failures, you able to learn something better from it. It allows you to make a better choice and take a better step in future. It allows you to improve, grow and lead a happy life.
Do you have any questions, comments, ideas, tips or resources about self-compassion that you would like to share with us?

I once got into a discussion with a dear friend of mine about how we would define confidence; he said that it is being able to recognize that my needs are just as important as anybody else's as well as the ability to assert your own needs while talking. I will never forget that answer.
Sounds good. I'll try my best to have check all the points mentioned above
