When you were young what did you want to be when you grew up?
In our youth, as kids, we all wanted to be something when we grew up; whether it was a vet, astronaut, nurse, or firefighter. What did you want to be when you grew up? 😊 Is it different from what you want to be right now?
When I was young I wanted to be happy and independent when I grew up..... Now I realise happiness can be short lived, grab the moment and squeeze every morsel of pleasure you can from it.
@lazyKatz I oftentimes found myself saying the same answer, even as a kid you can just want to be happy, independence too is a great trait to strive towards. Yet life has a way of teaching things, happiness isn't just a goal, it's a state and like many states it comes and goes, it's good to hold onto that and enjoy it as much as you can.
Yes it is different when I was a kid I wanted to be a second grade teacher when I grew up now that I am 33 years old I want to be a counselor. And hopefully I will start working towards that in the next few months
@positiveRiver9935 oftentimes what we initially wanted to be can change, that change is okay! From wanting to be a teacher to now a counselor, both are very caring careers, your care has extended across your life, I imagine with the shaping experiences often have too. I really wish you the best of luck with becoming a counselor now, the world needs more help within it, it's certainly rewarding :)
I wanted to be an artist or an actor. Now I want to do something’s with computers or just be a flight attendant if the pay is good
@Lolerite An artist or actor are both creative and quite expressive jobs, things as a child that are very interesting. Computers are definitely a different field but from all I've seen also offer a great role if you find it enjoyable, being a flight attendant is good pay! I really hope you get to follow a path that you like, even if a job isn't completely perfect, the expressive ambitions you had when you were younger can still be explored in many other ways, hobbies and groups are limitless outlets :)
I wanted to be an astronomer. As a kid and a young adult, I loved reading about the stars and the universe and black holes. I wanted to go into astronomy or astrophysics and learn more and discover and dream and wonder and make it my life. The road to it is quite drab, however. School. A lot of school. A Bachelor's degree in Math/Physics, and I'm sure you need a PhD if you plan on doing research. A Master's just won't cut it. Insane competition. It's a small field with a lot of passionate people all vying for the same. Finally money, all the cost of education is well, astronomical. Now, I want to be a physician assistant. Much less schooling than a doctor, normal 40 hour work week, and the option to change specifications whenever I wish. For example, I can work in emergency medicine for a bit. If it’s a bit tough for me, I can find another job in hematology/oncology without going back to school
@Sn0r1ax The universe and all its aspects is very intriguing, reading about the wonders of it all must have been wonderful as a child. It's definitely a beautiful but intense field to go into,I can understand the long journey and fierce competition being off putting in actually pursuing it, education and long term passion can be tough to keep up
I'm glad you've found an area you enjoy ☺️becoming a physician assistant seems a varied and more opportunistic job (by being able to change specifications easily without the extra cost and work of more education must be freeing!)
Hopefully your journey there will be a good one and you'll enjoy the career from it 😊
Just an adult.
@SoulPitstop I can agree with that sentiment 😅just wanting to grow up can be a huge dream as a child :)
1 scientist. have the degree. worked doing what i wanted to be. realized the pay was garbage for the difficulty of coursework. swapped careers.
2 yes. I want to be independently wealthy or win lotto so I never have to work for someone else.
Ha I didn't know back then and I still don't now.
I wanted to be an artist, a geologist, an artist again, and a pure mathematician.
I'm now a Curator and Social Media Representative at a local art museum. I also make art when I have the energy after work, adulting, and the responsibilities of life.
It's not exactly what I saw myself as (think that illustration on the Artist card in The Game of Life), but it's close enough for me at this point in life.
@YellowBee23 An artist, geologist and mathematician are all very varied jobs, it seems you have a lot of interest which is a really great thing to have with you throughout life!
I find it wonderful that in a form you are still carrying that on with what work you are doing now. Adult life definitely has its responsibilities I'm glad to hear you find the time to still express your art. Even if your career is different to what you initially imagines it seems not too far from the mark :) Hopefully you keep enjoying it and keep finding time ☺️
@KatieTheBigRockOne I wanted to be a nurse or doctor because of all the toy sets I would have and my parents telling me how much money I could make and all that.
@azureJet99 Wanting to be a nurse/ doctor is definitely a respectable field, but for some it can be pushed onto, I sense that with your parents encouragement about the pay, and all of your toys.
I take this has changed :) what do you want to be now? Or if you're already in a career do you feel you've found something for you? ☺️
