When you were young what did you want to be when you grew up?
In our youth, as kids, we all wanted to be something when we grew up; whether it was a vet, astronaut, nurse, or firefighter. What did you want to be when you grew up? 😊 Is it different from what you want to be right now?
I was very much in a romantic creative play always singing....... to myself and in the mirror re creating scenes I saw on TV or in the movies ,,im referencing like age 7....I wanted to be a ballerina but not literally I just liked to dance in my mind that meant being a ballerina
So I guess I wanted to be in love and surrounded by art… not much has changed:))
@Lu5566 wanting to be in love and surrounded by art is a very beautiful thing, I really like this take on my question 😊
Often as a child those things are very interesting, it's fun to dance and at 7 that'd definitely equate in many ways to being a ballerina :P I hope you still love to dance and keep finding art and love in your life
I used to say I wanted to be a doctor when I was asked only because I knew I wanted to help people and as children, our idea of work is obviously limited and our view of the world is simple.. with growth and age of course, I discovered more about myself and where my interests really lie and found that I was drawn to Psychology as I’m a highly deep and emotional person maybe sensitive too and I enjoy giving emotional support. Not to mention of course, how interesting and important Psychology is. So pursuing an education and career in Psychology gave me a sense of meaning and purpose I’ve never felt before career wise and it helped me better understand my self and my position in the world .. 👏🏼✌🏼🤍
Wanting to be a doctor as a child is an especially caring thing, often that want to care will extend to other areas as you grow older. I completely agree :) as young people our ideas and views are simplified, as you age this becomes complex and you can explore and develop upon ideas that once interested you.
For you time has helped you realise that the study of the mind and helping people through that understanding is your calling. Psychology can be especially rewarding. Acknowledging your strengths and abilities in the field is a power to keep with you, empathy and awareness are great traits. The best of luck with pursuing your meaning and continuing to explore yourself and your place here :)💙
If you're still in 7cups I would Love to know about how your schooling and career in psychology r counseling whichever it is has gone. Because I , myself,, am going to be taking classes in psychology in order to became a counselor. I haven't started classes yet but will be soon probably within 6 months. I look forward to hearing from you
@positiveRiver9935
Thankyou for this reply!
I am still here and active ☺️ So far I'm on the path to become a counseling/ occupational psychologist and the journey has been both inspiring and challenging :) I'm due to start a bachelor's degree in psychology soon, before then taking on a master's in a more specific area (which i have yet to decide but it'll likely be counselling) to then find experience and become employed in the field
Honestly my mother was just complaining at me tonight because I haven't started taking classes towards classes yet. Based on that I believe I would be going to college in the next few weeks to discuss starting my classes
And I really hope that it goes well because I'm so ready to be a counselor for myself and others honestly. I'm planning to get a master's for it. I just haven't decided yet whether that degree will be in counseling or psychology cuz I don't know which is best based on fact that I want to be a counselor haven't yet determined that
@positiveRiver9935 I find it's great you're looking to take up talking about classes soon. When you're doing that it can bring up the opportunity to discuss future plans like what degree you'd find most suitable to what you'd want to be :) it's definitely an idea to bring that up when you're talking about your classes and prospects
If you were ever too stuck on which to choose some tips from my experience so far has been look into employment, salaries and the type of work you'll go into(stories on personal experiences are quite valuable!) It can help discover which area you like best, once you've done that and found something most to your liking you can look into paths on how to become that which can give you some more confidence in which type of course to pick ( national health services, careers services and psychological associations are great to look into for this!)
Two things I remember wanting to be were a Veterinarian and a Marine Biologist (not at the same time haha).
As far as 'what I want to be when I grow up' now that I am a grown up, my perspective has changed some but that's at least in part due to where I'm at with my health and other area(s) of my life. I would still love to do something that involves animals, especially if it involved wild animals like at a Zoo or an Aquarium!
@munchiegoosie wanting to be a veterinarian or marine biologist are definitely quite fun careers, with time and circumstance things change and that's okay! I hope your health is well along with other areas :)
I find it endearing you still carry what you wanted to do when you were young with you now, people who love and want to help animals are always lovely people, hopefully you can pursue something involving animals or find ways to incorporate them into your life 💙🐛🐋🕊️🦧🐅🐍
Isn’t this for people suffering with anxiety? I don’t understand how the question pertains to anxiety. I
@Fancydancer hey there :) I appreciate your point, this forum space is a place for everyone, though it isn't directly for anxiety. This subforum is for positivity and gratitude so the posts here are for positivity, this particular post is about positively reflecting on things(past career ambitions here :P) and exploring fun ideas
☺️ Hopefully this helped
@KatieTheBigRockOne
I wanted to be a dentist/orthodontist combo. I thought dentistry was interesting, and found it fun to have braces in a variety of colors, so I wanted to be an understanding dentist/orthodontist that could both take care of my patients and make the experience less painful.
Now, though, I’m not entirely sure on what I want to be. I do like writing stories, but I’m not sure if I necessarily want to become a published author.
@TheAutumnWitch being fascinated by dentistry is a very interesting thing, especially younger I can imagine all of the aspects of it were incredibly interesting as well as your want to make the experience better :)
It's okay to not be entirely sure of what you want to be right now ☺️ luckily life is here for figuring it all out, it's good you have found something you enjoy. Whether you choose to pursue literature or carry it on as a hobby believe in yourself, best of luck in finding what you'd want to do 💙
@KatieTheBigRockOne I wanted to be a singer growing up, or a writer. I think I used to be the creative type! But then I started living life and lost that creative spark. I am not really sad about it, just feeling a bit of nostalgia from now and then. Now I am a scientist doing research, haha.
@colorfulTurtle948 wanting to be a singer or writer growing up certainly demonstrates how creative you were as a younger person, often life and responsibilities can take away from that but hopefully with your current job you are happy :)
It's certainly quite something to say you are a scientist, I hope you can still keep in touch with your creative side, even if you didn't follow it into a career.... Once a creative, always a creative 🎨🎤may you have time to express it still
@KatieTheBigRockOne I wanted to be an interior designer! I would cut out pictures from my mom's Southern Living magazines and create dream homes and floor plans from them. Even designed my own design center lol... it included a little tram ride through the gardens before stopping at the front of the building.
@sunset0214 thankyou for this answer :) an interior designer is definitely a unique and fun ambition as a young kid. It must have been fun to design and explore your creativity in that way, magazines definitely help with collage making and creating :O.
I really hope you still have an outlet for creativity like that, for however it's taken form as you've grown :).
@KatieTheBigRockOne Thank you for brightening my day with your reply! I had forgotten about some of those childhood memories, so it was nice to take that walk down memory lane :)
Yes, I am in the creative field but it's graphic design (20+ years now whoa) instead of interior/home design. My hubby is an illustrator, and our youngest is really budding as an artist as well! It's amazing to see that art style develop in our little one :)
@sunset0214 I can imagine it's quite insightful to look back on the past, reconnecting with childhood roots can be incredibly nostalgic (and fun!)
It's wonderful to see you've still went into a career with a focus of design :) and it to be so successful! it seems in your work, your husband and youngest, art is still all around you. Hopefully your youngest gets to explore that and you see it develop
When I was younger I always wanted to write for a Soap Opera or be on a weekly television series. But I went to college and got a Bachelor of Science in Music, Masters in Education and Masters in Business Administration. I got married at an older age and was an older mother but it was well worth it. The best gift in the world is being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
@GiGi52 writing for a soap opera is a very intruiging path, and so is working for a weekly television series, as a child I feel you had some great interests. I can see you were quite dedicated with a bachelor's and two masters, we all take life at different paces, sometimes doing things later can be worthwhile :)
I sense your pride in your motherhood and all you've built, it is a great gift to build a family ☺️
Thanks
