Grieving and anxious

Hi everyone,

first time posting never sure what to post, usually find a post that is similar to what I want to post and feel better after reading it and all the comments. This one I felt I needed to post as it might just be what I need.

over the last week my dad passed away. I was the one who had to take the phone call from the hospital and tell the rest of my family. It was tough, I collapsed in our hallway and just sobbed. My immediate reaction was pull yourself together Dad will not want this, I have taken time of work however know that he would not be happy with me for taking the time off.

Every so often when I am alone like in the car I start having panic attacks and feel anxious about going out and doing things, things I have always done even when he was at home. Does anyone have any advice??

@mysticowl79 Condolences on losing your dad. It sounds like you had to carry an additional load of notifying the family of your dad’s passing. You said he wouldn’t want you taking time off but I’m guessing he would also want you take good care of yourself. It’s good you’re here on 7 Cups. There are lots of folks here to support.

Never think, that you lost a person but try to imagine that he is living with you all.

This imagination can help you to get out of anxiety.

@mysticowl79

hello!  I can’t say that I have any advice because both of my parents are still living.  I have not been in your shoes, but I have experienced a significant loss.  What I want to remind you of is that it is completely normal to feel so many mixed and overwhelming emotions.  Losing a parent is a significant loss and it is absolutely 100% ok if you need to take time off from work.

We have two group support chats each month and I would love for you to join and be able to talk to others who have experienced similar losses.  The group chats are the 2nd and last Wed of each month from 9-11 pm EST in the Support Session Chat Room.

I hope that you find comfort here amongst people who understand your pain.
