Lost my cousin

My cousin passed away in July 2023, for ages all I would do was cry. I remember, in October 2023, I would go to school and come back and if I was alone I’d just cry because it hurt so much but now I’ve stopped crying I still cherish our memories together and it still hurts thinking about the fact I will never see him again but because I’m not showing this emotion by crying and I feel as though I’m moving on with my life I feel incredibly guilty for it. Moving on with my life is something I have to do because I’ve learnt no matter how hurt you are by losing someone the world never stops and you just have to keep on going with your life but sometimes I wish I could just pause the world for a moment so I could just let it all out and feel like I’m not missing out on something. I always feel so guilty for living my life. I miss him so much

@islamacdonald 😞 I'm sorry you lost your cousin. Sounds like you were close with him. I understand the feeling of guilt, but if it were the other way around, you wouldn't want your cousin to stop your life would you? You don't need to feel guilty for getting on with life. And you do honour and remember him constantly, for he lives in your memories and heart ❤ I know it's not easy, gives you a giant tiny hug ❤❤ squeezes you tightly ❤ I'm right here if you need to talk ❤

@islamacdonald

Losing a loved one is so very difficult, esp when you are close with them and it sounds like you and your cousin were close.  All of your feelings are a normal part of the grieving process.  The tears are normal and even the guilt for moving on with your life is normal.  The one thing that I always try to remember when it comes to grief is that my loved one would want me to go on with my life and they wouldn’t want me to feel guilty for it.

@islamacdonald

Hey. I want to offer my condolences to you. I can't imagine the pain I'd feel if I lost my cousin, so I can just imagine how hard this has been for you. You are right, the world does keep moving forward. I understand how it feels guilty to be okay and living your life when you are grieving. I was the same way when I lost my grandfather in 2019. Something you have to remember is that your cousin would not want you missing anything in your life or avoiding any opportunities. You live your life, holding him close to your heart, the memories of him keeping you going. He lives within you. It's easy to feel guilty and upset with yourself for thinking this is you being okay without your cousin. But it is not that you are better without your cousin but you are learning how to live in a world without him. This realization can be very upsetting and sad. If you work or go to school and need a couple of days, see if you can ask for them. Take those couple of days to process any feelings you are experiencing.

Also know that grief has no timetable.

We are here for you.
