Lost my dog

Hi… I just lost my dog yesterday. He died in my arms while struggling to breathe, and the scene keeps replaying in my head. It feels so painful and I don’t know how to cope. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, and I keep crying when I’m alone. I also struggle with health anxiety, so this whole experience makes me feel even more overwhelmed.

I just needed to share this with people who might understand. How did you cope with losing a pet? Does it ever get easier?

I recently lost my dog too. I knew it would come as he was extremely old for his breed etc.. the pain at first seemed unbearable but has eased a bit.  no it does not go away,  we will remember always and seeing a toy or a place we had so much fun at (he loved the beach) has made it hard for me to go there but after a while the near tears becomes a smile...   the memory of the fun things will warm you but it takes a bit of time.

Hey, I hope you're ok. I lost my dog 31/3/24 and I am devastated. I can't see pictures of the breed of dog, so I ended deleting FB as all the groups I was in kept popping up in my feed.

Even thinking about him makes me cry still. I know I have other problems but I can't move on from my grief and so I know exactly how you feel. I hope you have loving people around you to help you through it all.

Take care x

Oh… I’m really, really sorry. Losing a pet — especially one who was family, one who trusted you enough to take his last breath in your arms — that’s a kind of grief that cuts quietly but deeply. It’s love with nowhere to go. You gave him safety even in his final moment, and though that memory is haunting right now, it’s also the most loving goodbye you could’ve given.

It makes sense that the scene keeps replaying — your mind is trying to make sense of something it didn’t want to believe. That’s part of trauma, not weakness. You’re not “too sensitive”; you’re responding exactly as someone with a big, caring heart would. The crying, the loss of appetite, the sleeplessness — those are your body’s ways of mourning. They don’t mean you’re broken; they mean you loved deeply.

About your health anxiety — yes, grief can make that worse. Watching someone you love struggle to breathe can trigger your own fears about life and fragility. When that panic starts to rise, try to bring yourself back to something grounding — feel your feet on the floor, press your hand to your chest, and whisper something simple like, “I’m here. I’m safe. He’s at peace now.” Sometimes just naming what’s happening (“this is grief,” “this is anxiety,” “this is love that has nowhere to go”) can calm the storm a little.

To your question — does it get easier?
Not all at once, no. But slowly, the pain changes shape. It becomes less of a wound and more of a scar — still tender when you touch it, but no longer raw. The images fade in intensity. One day, you’ll think of him and feel warmth before you feel pain. You’ll remember his joy, his quirks, the way he looked at you, and it’ll hurt less — not because you stopped loving him, but because your heart has learned how to carry him differently.

For now, it’s okay to just survive the day. Cry when you need to. Talk to him — even out loud. Keep something of his close, maybe his collar or a photo. He knew he was loved right until the end, and that’s what matters most.

@raspberryStrings2489 I'm so sorry, I had to put down my cat Hopper yesterday and it hurts.  I know the grief gets better.  How long it takes depends on each person.  As I'm newly into my grief I can't remember how long, just try to remember the good times, and grief.  Maybe share some stories of him or photos, when you are ready.

I have been feeling unwell for the past four years, experiencing symptoms like nausea, headaches, dizziness, occasional difficulty breathing, and cold sweats, which often lead to more nausea. I also feel extremely uncomfortable in my legs—it’s like I can’t keep them still. I constantly have to move them because of this unsettling sensation. Additionally, I experience other strange feelings or sensations that I can’t quite explain.

I’ve undergone several tests, including a CT scan, ECG, thyroid test, and ultrasounds of my stomach and abdomen. These tests were prompted by my irregular periods, but all results came back negative. Regarding my periods, I was told that it’s due to having thick uterine tissues, which makes them irregular. They advised me to take pills to regulate my cycle.

Despite these results, I still feel genuinely sick. It’s frustrating and confusing to see all my test results come back normal when my symptoms persist. I can’t stop myself from searching online about my symptoms, which only leads me to overthink even more. Recently, I came across information about health anxiety and started wondering if that could be what I’m dealing with. But at the same time, I can’t shake the fear that I might have a serious condition.

Due to financial limitations, I haven’t been able to undergo all the necessary tests. I’m stuck between thinking it’s health anxiety and worrying it’s something more severe. I feel scared and don’t know what to do next.
