My 4 year old cat.
My 4 year old baby boy cat was put down today.
He had feline idiopathic cystitis. 4 days ago we were fine, he was playing with toys. And this morning I held him while he took his last breath. He was the best cat, he never hissed, never scratched, LOVED to be under the blankets with you, and purred louder than any other cat in the world when you just looked at him. I named him Ashe, we got him as a 1 year old to help our younger cat. Ashe came from a home with other cats and Kai (our younger cat) had no other animals in his life. Ashe was the best big brother in the world.
I don't know how to process this, my wife is a mess. And I'm doing everything to keep it together for her, she's never lost a animal before. She's napping right now and I'm grappling with the fact he's gone. What do I do. What can I do? It's like half my world died in my arms. This cat meant the world to me. He was my therapist and my battle buddy. Hed watch shows with us on the couch ( he liked the movement)
It's as if my brain refuses it. Like later I'm going to open the door. Walk into the living room and he'll be on the couch squinting and purring at me.
Thank you to anyone who's reading this.
Rest in peace Ashe. I loved you so much buddy. So much.
@Saelman I’m so sorry for your loss. Ashe sounds like such a loving, gentle cat who brought so much comfort and joy into your life. Please know it’s okay for you to grieve too, even while supporting your wife.
@Saelman
i'm sorry to hear that. i recently lost my cat too.
i remember gaining so much weight in a span of a week aft her death due to binge eating. it was really hard to cope because she was very affectionate to me and now that her love is gone things won't be the same 💔
grief will heal through time. just remember that ashe is at peace now, and i bet he's watching over u with so much pride ❤️🩹
So sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine losing a great love able cat that young. No matter what age an animal is when they pass it is so hard because they are part of the family. I have had a fair share of dogs, cats, and hamsters that have left this earth to be in heaven.
I am still so lost and grieving over my most recent loss who passed away in November of 2024.
She was my baby girl (my only child), my cat, and no one else’s responsibility who was a few months close to turning 16 years old. I never thought she would pass away before age 20 because she was always so spunky.
There were a few dogs in my life that were put down for various health reasons. Each one were over 12 years of age. My parents were the ones that were the ones that took them to the vet during the process when I wasn’t around, so I wouldn’t know it had been done until I returned home from either school or work.
It still hurts knowing that they aren’t going to be there anymore when you come home.
A couple months after my loss of my baby girl my parents and I adopted two 6 month old male kitties to share custody. They certainly keep me busy and my mind distracted from my sadness most of them time, but the sadness tends to creep back in when I least expect it.
To continue my thoughts of my own case on my own post.
I want to end my message for you is to try to find something you can do to help distract your mind from the sadness. It is helpful to keep busy as much as possible and then there are moments you just need to be alone to cry (crying won’t bring them back, but it helps release that sadness tension that is inside ever so often.
@Saelman
🥺
I am so sorry you lost your beloved cats.
He sounds like he really was a big part of the family.
People can underestimate the feelings around losing a pet.
I'm sending my love to both you and your wife at this sad time 💜💕
