They tell me "time heals everything"

Does time heal anything at all????

Because I seem to miss my dad more and more as the days go by. The hurt keeps on increasing and nothing seems to get easier.

It's like I've completely given up on everything around me.

I sleep and keep getting dreams that he's still here and life is normal but then I wake up and he's not. I still don't think I've completely come to terms with the fact that he's gone and that life will never be the same. I'm dreading the day that happens because it already hurts so bad and it's definitely gonna get worse but I can't even begin to imagine that

Tonight was really hard because I was going through some old videos, and hearing his voice just rips my heart into even smaller bits than it already is.

It really hurts knowing that I have to keep living with this pain

I am sorry to hear about your loss...

I believe "time will heal" is only partially applicable if you lose someone like that... forever, completely. I think we never actually come to terms with the fact that someone we love is gone and that life will never be the same without him or her.

There is always "what if we had just another year?" or "how the world could look like now if she was still here?".

What helps me is thinking that when a good person passes away, the amount of good on our planet decreases. And it's my responsibility to make up for this loss. That makes me believe it all can still makes sense, and that is my way of showing respect to my beloved person who can no longer be here in a material body... but maybe is still looking at us from somewhere... Keeping their fingers crossed that we go through the biggest sadness and grief, and survive. Because our work here is done not yet.

The term "time heals everything", I'd like to think that it shouldn't be applied to grieving for a loved one. Because as hours, days, weeks, months, years pass by, there will always be times where you miss your loved ones. Some days more than others, but as time goes by, you'll learn to cope with those days where you're hurting or missing your dad the most. I was told by a grief counsellor, that the grief we feel for our loved ones = the love we had for them, and our love for them will never go away as years pass by. So, rather than thinking that overtime, the pain will be gone, try and get some help to see how you can accept the fact that they're no longer physically at your side, but still keep him in your memories. And don't give yourself a timeline as to how long you'll be grieving for. It's different for everyone and the process varies from person-to-person. Remember to take care of yourself too along the way.
