😔

It's the hardest thing anyone will ever go through.

And there's no right or wrong way to grieve.

It can be all consuming , it doesn't go away but it dulls, allowing you to live around it 🩷

End of July this year, marks the second year of my grandma leaving. It took me 9 months to move on with my life after news of her passing. I took time off work, and spent all my time in counselling, individual and group counselling sessions.

We all walk through it at different pace, through different ways. There is no timeline, and like @Amanda84 says, it doesn't go away. There will be times you'll miss the loss more, as there may be triggers that remind you of him/her.

I lost my dog more than 10 years ago, she had a tumour and was nine years old. Vet said that she was too old for surgery, so we ended up putting her down. It's been more than 10 years since she's been gone, but I still think of her from time to time. She's still very much alive in my mind, and I still have pictures of her in my phone. When she was a puppy, to her last moments.

So, process your grief in whichever way you need to, it doesn't matter how long it will take you. Just go with the flow, don't force anything.

What helps me get through grief is sitting with it, talking it out somewhere or you can even let it out with someone you trust you know what I mean?
It's not easy because grief is a wave but you can overcome it through separating the inner voice of grief "you're never going to heal" or "this is your destiny" from who you are and what you can do.
Honestly sitting with it, moving on from it after finding space to do so can be really healing for your nervous system and your soul.

Grief is definitely an individual process. My route was numbness and what finally helped (plus got rid of the guilt), was removing the expectation that I have to be the same as everyone and be miserable 24-7.

I was just somebody on auto pilot and it wasn't wrong, it was just how it happened for me.

Just feel how you feel, whether you want company or solitude, it's all perfectly normal.
