You Put Loss To Bed Then It Wakes Up Again!

I’m unsure where this should go, but it does concern loss. Mother’s Day is tomorrow. I don’t quite know hot to respond when when people in my community ask if I’d like to participate in Mother’s Day activities, since I had zero relationship with my mother after my father died many years ago. I devoted much time and compassion towards understanding as best I could the complications of her life and my entry into it that possibly caused her to behave in such a destructive fashion towards a child and later young adult. Then I found out that she had died recently, died in probably horrible circumstances. I would have helped in any way possible, asked for nothing, and left quietly afterwards, not staying for any funeral or memorial so as not to intrude. I’m very sad that she died this way. I’ve helped strangers. But the people around her were afraid I’d want her money, I think. They didn’t know me, else they would have realized I cared not for that. I cared for HER. Still, after all these years. Sigh.

I'm sorry you were unable to get some of the closure that could have occurred with the different relationship when you're an adult, and in her final days. I hope you can find something that does offer that.

There's no right or wrong way to spend Mother's Day, do whatever feels right to you.
