There is a person i have romantic feelings for but i can't be in a relationship with then because they are already in one and much older than me. im not going to say who they are but i have had a crush on them for over a year now and i constantly think about them and wish i could just marry her. she is so kind, caring, and attractive but i will never have her and this makes my depression and feelings of isolation worse. its especially bad because i dont have any friends or support to turn to other than my weekly therapist but she doesnt help much

Unrequited feelings of love are so painful. Do you have the courage to look behind that pain? You want something that you acknowledge that you can't have. What are your beliefs around the things you want? Are those beliefs helping you get what you want? Sometimes we have grown up with beliefs that turn out to not be helpful and hold us back. And it's difficult to make progress until we identify and change those beliefs.

what should a therapist do to help you? How do you think someone should help someone else get rid of thoughts they don't want?

In my experience the best way to get rid of unwanted thoughts is to acknowledge them, remind yourself that they are unhelpful and then replace these thoughts with thoughts that are more constructive. An example might be "I'm am a good person and I will find friendship and love". Or "I can learn to be the person I want to be and have the relationships I want to have".
