Manage the Holiday Blues!
The holiday season will always be a challenging time for many people. It feels lonely. But, this year many more of us are witnessing it. It is way different than what we thought of. Socially distanced, personal struggles and other concerns made it hard to enjoy the celebrations or even think of it.
If you are feeling like this, please know you are not alone. Many of us are experiencing holiday blues. We will get through this as well. But, we could make it better and try to lighten the burden of the challenges.
Let’s try one or all steps to feel better, support each other better, and have some good moments during this holiday season.
1. Be compassionate. This year, you already went through and feeling holiday blues double the stress. It is okay to feel challenged. Feel it.
Acknowledge and validate your feelings and be compassionate to yourself. Try to use a more positive approach and encourage yourself that you got this and can do better. We will get through this. You can also support and encourage others in the same ways as well. Because you are not alone who experience this emotion.
2. Share & Reach out. Even if you are feeling lonely, stressed, challenged, make sure you reach out and connect with others to share how you are feeling and listen to others. You can join the Sharing Circle Room and share your feelings. Sharing is good.
It is okay to say, “It’s hard.”, “I’m stressed.” “I’m feeling lonely.” We all are here to listen and support you. You are not alone.
Also, encourage others to share as well because sharing helps to feel lighter.
3. Have fun. Remind yourself that this is your moment and you can own it by changing the way it is. Try different blends of new and old traditions, try new ways to have some moments of joy. We are hosting so many sessions and activities during this holiday. You are welcome to join and participate in them.
I know it is not easy and I can’t even imagine how hard it is for many of you. But, now it is up to us how we want to react to a situation. Our responses make a difference.
We all are here with you!

@ASilentObserver
Dance ! Express through music you love. Let your body moves in it s own rhythms, free it from the invisible chains.
@ASilentObserver Music is a way of expression for me. Most likely going to rely on that to get me through the holiday blues. I think many others can say the same.
Yes! Despite stressful and lonely times, I want to take the time to do things I love. I'm going to try to spend quality time with myself and find some peace and relaxation.
I am in a bad living situation, cant decorate or find the spirit of Christmas.
@Rebekahwriter13 I am sorry to hear that. I pray things get better for you soon. Hang in there.
@Belkanoir thank you i appreciate prayers
Hello everyone. I lost my daughter September 1,2019 to an overdose. I saved her life twice before that but the third time I couldn't get her up. She was 31 and I normally don't talk about it but I'm falling apart here. My normal weight is around 170 but I'm like 90 pounds over and tired. I have copd so walking far is not an option. Medicine made me gain 3 to 4 pounds a week. I just need a friend. I don't want to succumb to my depression.
@Sonnge68 I am so sorry you lost you lost your daughter. My heart goes out to you. I will keep you in my prayers. Please take care of yourself you are worth it. I'm glad you are here and I hope it helps you hang on having people here you can talk with.
@ASilentObserver I'm mostly just going to practice singing, dancing, ukulele, and hopefully clarinet (i have to get new reeds) to get through winter in general, as winter is an extremely busy time for my family (holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc). I'm also going to be doing a lot of tarot, cooking, cleaning, and studying languages. Also, sleepingggggggggggg
How are you feeling? What is in your mind? Any other ways you have to handle holiday blues?
I think this isn't very healthy way, but I try to don't think about things, that trigger me :/ I don't know better in this point. I am somewhat sad about this holiday bc of relationship and family issues. But these holidays aren't the worst by far. I could say I am thankful for these holidays even with blues.
How are you feeling?
For today, I'm doing okay (and that's enough 😁)
What on your mind?
In addition to the "2020 ish" of this year, my brother and my ex husband past away. This holiday season has been bittersweet due to missing them but also trying to remember to blessed good times with them.
Ways that I handle the blues?
I turned off my alarm clock this week. I let myself wake naturally. I consciously keep my focus on today and the new year ahead. I've been deep cleaning my house (out with the old yuck). I use scented wax melts to fill my home with wonderful smells of the season (Christmas tree, Sugar Cookie, Baked Apple Pie are all great!). And lastly, before bed, I try to think of a few things that are blessings to me or that brought me a smile today (even if it's something as small as my warm, cozy house slippers on cold evenings 😁).
@ASilentObserver i'm feeling great since I being help the people and when I communicate.
