Refer Button Added on Member Side in Group Support

This afternoon, we will add a refer button for the members to use in the group support setting. The purpose of this button is to help those who are suicidal get resources as quickly as possible.

The button will include hover text on the member side which reads:

"Anonymously refer this person to suicide hotline and chat resources"

When the member presses it, the member who is suicidal will get the referral information sent to them.

We hope this helps to ensure a safe, supportive environment for all the members who come through out doors. Just another way for us to encourage and ensure members get the appropriate resources when/if they need them.

I like the idea, but the referral lines are all American, will you be adding international ones to the list?

I second this. Perhaps it would be better to link to an external source that has international numbers? If we had our own list, it would be massive, require a ton of research to complete, and be difficult and time-consuming to update. So perhaps if we let an external site do the work, we could just link to the list they compiled and update?

@AdventuRinWe've an international list, but it's on a google sheet so I dont know how could we link this unless we copy and paste it in a page here or something similar!

It's a good idea butit's a bit impersonal and assumes the person is in the USA which isn't helpful. Can see people just referring before a person has even had chance to say where they are from which I know would just make me feel worse. It would be better if we had access to resources like this in a pop out panel or something that can be organisedby country. People could help fill this then and add local charities and resources etc that could help. I have used Google more than the documents to try and find resources for a member/guest.

I have found some members/guests are upset by this. They think it hinders their ability to speak freely if they know someone will be able to refer them for possibly no reason at all.

Few questions:

- Will there be a notification to the mod if someone is referred?

- Is there a way we could get referrals approved if they come from members?

I agree on the need for international resources. We have to be sensitive to the needs of all members no matter where they are from since we are a global community. Every time it offer resources in a chat to someone, I ask what country they are in and if they are not USA I do a google search for the appropriate referral. It is the added steps that make people come back.
