A Group Support Proposal For Your Feedback!

Hello everyone,

Group Support is one of the significant parts of the community to provide support to the community. We are always striving to bring more quality and focused support to the community members. Today’s post is to discuss and have your inputs on some of the ideas to improve quality to ensure focused support.

Proposal 1

As you all know a group support leader can pick 3 rooms/ support teams / subcom to support the community. It will be applicable for both room supporter and moderator. So we were discussing it earlier and I realized how overwhelming it is for group leaders as well as members' constant feedback on not getting topic-based support regularly. To address it, I propose:

  • A group leader can pick only two rooms to focus on to provide focused support to the community members.
  • One room would be a regular room (either Support Room 24/7 or Member Community Room)
  • The second room will be any focused topic room like Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Eating Disorder, Relationship, etc.

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate this proposal where 1 is “Nay” and 10 is “Yay”

Proposal 2

As you all know every support team runs support sessions and guided discussions to support the sub-community. Unfortunately, we do not have many discussion hosts to host these sessions. So to address it, I propose:

A community-centered mod of a sub-community would be required to host a 30 minutes support session/ guided discussion twice a month.

I am proposing a 30 minutes session as it seems easier to manage to host than an hour session. So, a moderator may be able to schedule in advance and run therapeutic sessions. As well as it will be a huge help to the Support Teams and the Community.

The reason to propose these changes is to ensure both the group leaders and community get all support. We strive to support our members, so our focus is always to give them the best support and experience. And, as our community leaders are so dedicated and hardworking. We understand how they trying their best to support the community through their efforts and contributions. They are important to us and we appreciate their efforts.

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate this proposal where 1 is “Nay” and 10 is “Yay”

All thoughts and feedback on the above proposal are welcomed! We look forward to having your inputs. Thank you for being with us!!

I see no reason to have 50% ish of the room leaders to support MCR and the other 50% ish to support the Support 24/7 room. I see no reason why the 2 rooms can't be topic based rooms. So 2/10 for that aspect.

4/10 for limiting to 2 rooms, some people do handle 3 well.

I thought there was a minimum requirement already? I'm not sure what it is to compare though. 10/10 for having one in general. I think popups should also count though for those who have less specific schedules.

If people can't meet yhe minimum requirements for the number of rooms they support then it makes sense to reach out see what they think they can handle and reduce them. Make it more personalized than limiting people based on what others can and cannot manage.

@AffyAvo it was needed 50 messages per month in group rooms for Room Supporter and 100 messages per month for Group mods. Sadly they were done in "any" room versus the discussions in a specific room the quota check it's in the right room. 50 messages per month is about 20-30 minutes so it's equivalent to previous quota.

@TortueDesBois I didn't realize they still weren't room specific! They definitely should be, plus I think it makes sense for them to be tiered ie. moderators a higher requirement than room supporters.

@ASilentObserver Hello Obs! Thank You for taking our views on these great proposals. I will mention what I think below, feel free to check it out.

For Proposal 1 :

I would better go with 7/10. I totally understand that concern and I agree with that but not completely. As everyone pointed out, I think some of the leaders have the capability of handling 3 rooms/sub-coms and I totally agree some of them may be having hard time handling all 3 of them. So we could change it a bit way, that in the form, we could ask them to enter 2-3 communities/rooms they wish to Mod for including one Topic Room (pointing out that they can enter 2 rooms/sub-coms as well according to what they wish). Now, leaders checking out the forms could have 2 options :-

1. To give them both the 2 sub-coms/rooms they asked for including one 24*7 room and one topic room.

2. When they choose for 3 rooms/sub-coms, then it would depend on leaders to allot them 2 or 3 after checking their profile page. Leaders could only allot 2 rooms/sub-coms even if they have asked for 3.

As a note point, any leader could get their room/sub-com removed after contacting Group Support Leaders or Community Mentor Leaders. In simple words, if a person has requested for 2 of them, then we can allot both the 2 rooms/sub-coms they have asked for which must include one 24*7 room and 1 topic room. In case they have asked for three and agree that they can handle 3, then it would depend on leaders to allot them 2 or 3 but in this also, one room/sub-com must be 24*7 and one of topic.

For Proposal 2 :

I would go with 9/10. 30-Minutes session to be hosted twice a week by a Group Leaders sound good. Thing that we could mind is that rather than 30-minute session, they can conduct a Pop-Up Topic session in their Topic Room. This will be encouraging peoples and pop-ups will also get hosted by every leader atleast twice a month in their Topic Room.

Thank You for taking our views on this. Hope these will be great additions to their requirements and role. Thank You for taking time to read everything above! Red heart

Be the change that you wish to see in the world.

I'm not a fan of either proposal. Proposal one suggests getting involved in a community and in MCR or 24/7. Some mods excel in those rooms while other may not. I think that could deter people from entering leadership if their comfort level in MCR or 24/7 is low. Since the quota for a mod is 100, a mod could easily work in their sub community to reach that goal without ever having to actually be in MCR or 24/7 which could, ultimately lead to a very large population of mods for those rooms who are not actively participation in those rooms.

While I support regular discussions and activities in each community member room, it is difficult to manage support sessions in rooms on the rotational schedule and pop up rooms like Family and Caregivers. As CML of that room, we are actvie but there are barriers. First, the restrction on reapplying for the role of doorkeeper quarterly is hard on a team like mine. In January, In January, all of my doorkeepers lost their badge. Even those that reapplied. It was on me, as the only doorkeeper, to open our room for all 6 sessions we have each week. Not being able to open a room means mods can't run reglar discussions in a timely fashion since they are relient on others to open and close for them. Additionally, a mod can participate in any other room and still meet their the 100 requirement since any message sent in any support room counts towards their total monthly goal.

I would support a change in the way we count messages sent to meet their goals each month by rooms the mod supports. If, for example, a mod supports Anxiety and Relationships as their rooms of choice, the total count for each room should be 100 per room. A goal that could easily be met with a 30 to 60 minuet support session each month, I would suggest each mod be given the doorkeeper badge for as long as they meet the number of messages per room to be sent each month rather than a reapplication every quarter. That would ensure mods are at least present in the rooms they support even on teams where they are not CMLs, CMs. or STLs to rely on.

Just my two cents.

@PeaceLoveandPaws @ASilentObserver

I would be in favor of the modifications as mentioned above.

I'm down for these thoughts as well. If you join a support team for a subcommunity, even if the room is a pop-up or rotational room, you should be joining it with the intention to support and be active in the designated room(s) you've selected. If everyone's quotas were built around the rooms they applied for, it'd basically be "open your room and participate, or you'll lose your badge" which would be a big motivator for folks with the RS and mod badges to participate in the rooms on their teams, rather than meeting their quotas in 24/7, Community, or Sharing Circles.

And seconding the doorkeeper sentiment; if the mod badge came with doorkeeper abilities and was lost if you didn't meet your quota, rather than requiring a reapplication every quarter, this would be a better gauge of folks who are actually active in their roles and on their teams, than people remembering to fill out a form every quarter. Plus, it'd be much less work for the person who has to process all the reapplications.

Check out the Family & Caregivers Subcommunity

@PeaceLoveandPaws thats a brilliant idea instead of quarterly reapplying for doorkeeper tie it to a monthly req keep that keep badge I too hate this reapplying for doorkeeper since I need to open my DJ room n close when I'm done

First proposal: 1, with one room 24/7 and one popup room, they will continue to do all their quotas in the 24/7 room and be inactive in their popup room. If you set it, you need to ensure their 50 messages per month will be done in their topic focussed room. Sadly most of RS and Mods, do their quotas in 24/7 room and never open their picked topic room. We want support on specific topics. force them on general rooms will not help making smaller rooms.

Second one: 3 this one is good, but should also be one per month for the room supporter (so half of requirement of mods and still around 50 messages). why pick a room that they never open?
