Announcement: New Trial Room - Social Support Room
Hi everyone,
We’re introducing a new Social Support Room on the adult side of 7 Cups on a trial basis!
This room is designed to be a bridge between the lighthearted conversations in the current Member Community Room and the more focused support conversations in the Support Room. It is a place where members can connect socially, enjoy supportive group activities, play simple community games, and still have space for gentle emotional support when needed.
Sometimes members may not need a full support chat, but they may want more than casual small talk. The Social Support Room is meant to offer that middle ground: a warm, low-pressure space for connection, encouragement, and shared activities.
This room will be available only on the adult side during the trial period. Both members and listeners are invited to participate. We’ll observe how it is used, gather feedback, and make adjustments as needed.
Suggested Uses for the Social Support Room
Members can use this room for:
- Hosting simple icebreakers to help members feel included and welcomed
- Sharing small wins, daily check-ins, or mood ratings
- Offering encouragement after a hard day
- Having gentle conversations about everyday stress, loneliness, motivation, or coping
- Creating themed discussions, such as self-care ideas, cozy routines, music, hobbies, or positive memories
- Helping members connect socially when they want company but may not need a full support conversation
- Building a supportive community atmosphere through fun, low-pressure interaction
What This Room Is Not For
To keep the room safe and clear in purpose:
- Use the Support Room for deeper, more focused emotional support.
- Use the Member Community Room for purely casual, off-topic general chat and games.
- Avoid graphic, highly triggering, or crisis-level details in this room.
- Keep games and activities inclusive, kind, and supportive.
We hope this trial creates another helpful bridge for members who are looking for connection, encouragement, light games, and gentle support within the adult community!

Update 05/12/26:
Our trial was a success! However, we have decided to convert the room into a closed group which can be accessed via a badge. Anyone can apply for this access by filling in this application. This decision was made to ensure the safety and support of this space. We look forward to nurturing the supportive environment everyone has created!

Can there be some sort of buffer before newbies can have access to this room. Like something short like 2 days , but still not popping up right when they make an account ?
My understanding of the “Social Support” room is that it would be a place where lighthearted conversations and support topics could exist in one space. In the announcement of the room, it states it’s a bridge of MCR and Support Room. I don’t quite understand how games fit into that description.
I personally can see MCR being used as more of a recreational room for games and fun activities. I think “Social Support” should be a room where conversation can flow more naturally. For many members, having someone to talk to is support, even if that conversation is sharing a funny story about a pet.
Long conversations often evolve from jokes and casual chatter to deeper conversations about family, work struggles, finances, and more. Then often jumps back to casual and lighthearted. A space that enables this conversational freedom would feel more authentic and less restrictive. I think it would feel more like what I envision “social support” being.
Ultimately, I appreciate you trialing this room. I think any changes can be exciting and give members variety in their choices.
@FrogMonkey I agree, I find it confusing too although I haven't spent a lot of time in MCR the last few years. Maybe if I had the description would make more sense,
I know in the past some people in MCR (or similar rooms, there's been various ones over time) would be upset by games and guided chats there as it was the only light-hearted, casual chat space. I wonder if this is part of the reason for a room in between?
Either way, whenever I was in this new room it looked relatively healthy.

Social support room is an awesome new addition to 7cups. I like that it's not for heavy support but that we can still be there to support each other in various ways. Whereas I am of the opinion that MCR is more of a community room and is great for games and super light talk and hanging out vs SSR being a game room. Kudos to the brilliant minds that brought this room about. *Showers sparks of diamonds on all*

What's the threshold?
If people are taking breaks from 7 cups do ghey need to do something so access isn't revolked?
