Attending live sport improves wellbeing: Study
“The study, carried out by academics from Anglia Ruskin University's School of Psychology and Sport Science, used data from 7,209 adults, aged 16-85, living in England who participated in the Taking Part Survey, which was commissioned by the British Government's Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
It found that attending live sporting events results in higher scores of two major measurements of subjective well being -- life satisfaction and a sense of "life being worthwhile" -- as well as lower levels of loneliness.
These results are significant as previous studies have shown that higher life satisfaction scores are associated with fewer life-limiting conditions and better physical health, successful aging, and lower mortality rates.
The new study also found that attending live sporting events leads to an increase in people's sense that "life is worthwhile," and the size of this increase is comparable to that of gaining employment.”
My Takeaways:
This article shows that attending sporting events is associated with increasing subjective well being such as markers of life satisfaction and decreasing feelings of loneliness.
Sporting events can promote feelings of togetherness and social experience as emotions for and against a team can be heightened in a group setting. This same effect can also be experienced when hosting watching parties with friends and acquaintances.
Other benefits of regular sporting event attendees showed better physical health, better aging and lower mortality rates. The social experience of sports can greatly improve mental health outcomes!

Do you enjoy sporting events?
@sunnyWriting4806
Thank you for sharing this article with our community!
Personally I would have to say its a matter of the individual and what one likes and prefers. I personally don't care for "sporting events". I do however like Baseball and Ice Hockey, because I understand the sports itself. And have been to a few outdoor events as an adult, (as well as participated in them myself in my younger years).
I feel now that I'm older, my preferences have certainly changed much over time.... So I most likely wouldn't find myself sitting through these types of events anymore.
But lots of interesting info there!
@PoliteOcean
Thanks for sharing! I also really like the sports that I understand and had experience participating in before. I think in general sporting events are a reminder that we are very social beings that can find enjoyment in group activities whether it be sports or any other hobby really! Like perhaps watching a show with your friends can be an equivalent of going out and watching sports together.

Oh yes absolutely!... (or even ZUMBA)!!!~~ My favorite lol 😉❤️
I've met sooooo many Fitness Friendships by doing it, and its certainly added so many benefits to my life along the way throughout all the years I've done it.
Of course, sport is cool. Both for physical health and mental health. I do sports regularly. In the morning I do a warm-up and go for a walk or jog. I used to ride my bike a lot. I love football and basketball. I play with my friends once a week. Now I regularly go to the gym. I want to gain muscle mass and a well-defined body. I have been working out for several years and the results are generally good. But recently, my progress has almost stopped. I tried to adjust my training and nutrition plan, but it had a very short-term effect. I started taking various drugs and supplements. The guys at the gym recommend buy anavar, but I'm not sure. Can anyone recommend anything?
@Arnold99
Hi there Arnold, Thats so great that you are staying active and healthy, and continuing to strive for a healthier lifestyle for yourself! Continue to keep up the great work you are doing there.
There are so many different avenues that you can take to reach your "specific" goals. But of course that can also take some research on your part to get the best affect for "you". Or even talking to a Dietician/Nutritionist or even a personal trainer...... Often you can get a one time consult with any of these (especially if you have healthcare coverage), and it would only cost you a co-pay. Or even Free depending on some situations or insurance depending on where you are.
The one thing we can NOT do here at 7cups is "recommend or suggest" any types of medications or supplements. As that is our policy here, and it may do someone more "harm than good" as we don't know your personal health situation!
Again, the best recommendation that I would make in regards to meds/supplements etc... is to talk with one of the people I suggested above, or even including your healthcare provider who can give you the "best" response for "you".... We wish you continued best wishes on your Healthy Living journey ahead! And again, keep up the great work that you are doing.
