Do you Meditate?

Hello there!

I wanted to ask you a question, do you meditate?

Meditation is that which gives you deep rest. Meditation is an activity in which the practitioner just sits and allows the mind to dissolve. Meditation is not concentration. It is de-concentration

So if you do, what are the health benefits you have noticed? Share it with the community, and if you don't then would you like to start off with meditation, comment below to get necessary resources to get started!

I do! I started a few days ago. I did some research on the different types of meditation and tried to understand them to the best of my ability. It changed my way of thinking and opened my mind to new points of view. I've been meditating for 10 minutes everyday since then.

It's calming and while I can't see any big improvements yet, I can certainly notice short term ones. It especially helps with my mental health.

@archerzvy I am so glad that you found meditation useful.. so do you plan to increase the meditation time? And it would be great if you could share some tips too with everyone here.. :-)

@YourFriendforever Yeah, I'll most likely increase the time I spend meditating in the future! I'm sticking with 10 minutes for now since I'm just getting started. As for tips, I can't really give any right now since I've been trying different types of meditation to see what fits me best and I haven't had much experience yet, but the advice on this thread is already pretty good: your mind will wander, it is normal, just label it "thinking" and go back to what you chose to focus on (breathing, sensations...). Same thing with anything that distracts you. I like the "label it [...]" system because you acknowlege it so you know you can move on, but it's optional of course. Find what works for you!

@YourFriendforever
Yes I do. I meditate on every alternate days.
Meditation is very calming, relaxing, and extremely helpful. It makes me aware of how busy my mind actually is. I tend to focus on my breathing when I meditate and it has a really calming effect on me. My mind sometimes wanders off to distracting thoughts but I've been practicing for a long time now and I can bring it back to focus on my breathing pretty quickly.

Sure thing. I'd say that firstly, people should lower their expectations. If they want instant fix then they can't get it from meditation. Meditation is a slow process and it requires patience. I've had people saying that they fall asleep if they try to meditate but the key here is awareness. We can be aware of anything- our breathing, the sounds around us, the point of contact between our body and the chair or bed etc. If the mind wanders off then that's also okay, it'll get better with time and practice. We just have to keep in mind that we have to focus on something while we relax our mind and body completely. If we find thoughts or anxiety creeping up, then we should redirect them to our focal point. The focal point acts as an anchor as we let go of the rest of our body.

@damselinthisdress

Yoga is a good way to relieve stress when practicing within your abilities. If you're new to yoga start with easy poses to avoid stress on your body. Yoga in combination with meditation and healthy living can be positive tools for good health. All are worth the effort over time.

Meditation is something I am working to incorporate every day. Like many others, I find it so difficult to focus and quiet my mind. With practice, I hope to become much better.

I recently got the following book and I am trying my best to follow it. :)

As a very very spiritual person, I love meditation. It's extremely calming and it helps me connect to my spirituality, and my physical/mental self! I haven't really tried it for my mental health, but I think it would really help actually heart I usually listen to meditation music or Wardruna while I meditate :)

I first started meditating because I have insomnia, it's been one of the few things that helped to fall asleep, as well as ASMR videos. Then about a year ago I started going to the buddhist center in my city and I get amazed on how it's really done, I have trouble with the posture always, but at home I try to do it laying on my back. Sometimes I meditate everyday or 3 or 4 days a week, and sometimes I kinda forget it, but when I do it again I feel that my mind is clean, sometimes I realize some answers I've been seeking, and it's a great experience over all :)
