Often, the body asks for a quiet time to detoxify negative emotions so that we can perform a real cleansing in the “soul”. Emotional detox is the cleaning of our emotions that, just like the bodily hygiene we perform every day, we need to clear our mind of everything that does not provide us with well-being and peace of mind.

Contemporary life is a constant challenge, especially when it comes to emotional balance. We are submerged in an individualistic, competitive, consumerist, disposable, selfish and therefore stress-generating system, where, like conditioned and stereotyped automatons, we engage in "ego games", which do not provide us with a significant advance in crucial aspects of human development where they can encompass the satisfaction of our deepest existential needs and needs.

Above all, it is necessary to have a critical, evaluative and validating look at the awareness between the life we lead and the life we really need to enjoy. Therefore, there are times when we need to stop and assess the quality of our life. Often, the body asks for a quiet time to detoxify negative emotions, to carry out a true cleansing of the "soul" and supply ourselves with "healing energies". Thus, it is essential to prioritize our peace and tranquility, above all. To this end, we need to learn to harmonize our minds. A good tip for getting in shape emotionally is to do an emotional detox.

What is emotional detox and how to do it?

Just as we don't choose any food to consume, this is also true of the quality of emotions we ingest on a daily basis. Emotional detox is the cleaning of our emotions that, just like the body hygiene we perform every day, it is necessary to clear our mind of everything that does not provide us with well-being and peace of mind. This type of detox does not aim to control toxic contents and negative emotions, quite the opposite. The proposal is to recognize them, welcome them and re-signify them in our emotional field, promoting light to shade. From time to time, we feel the need to remove toxins from the body to energize it, to feel more energetic and lighter. So why don't we do the same with our negative emotions? After all, healing doesn't just happen from the outside in, but rather from the inside out.

1- Do not accept to get involved with "energies" and negative situations:

I refer to "negative energy", any and all circumstances or events conveyed by people who want to take us out of the focus of our well-being, happiness and peace of mind, whether consciously or unconsciously. There is no such thing as a perfect human being, we are all in the process of learning and therefore, we can never call people “difficult”, “negative” or “positive” but that they are under continuous construction. They try to get it right and do the best they can with the resources at their disposal. However, some people are repeatedly feeding and fortifying harmful feelings of anger, hurt, and even hatred, with the instinct to attack and defense being the predominant rules of their conduct. It would be counterproductive to segregate them, as we all have our shortcomings and difficulties. But the extent to which this would cost us our own psychic and emotional balance is a personalized decision, as we are the only ones responsible for our own well-being. The tip is not to become hostage to negativities.

2- The healing benefits of meditation:

Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, meditation and silence have healing power, as they provide a meeting with our essence and contact with our real needs. Unfortunately, the constant external appeals increasingly distance us from ourselves, as we focus more on having than being. Meditation “slows down” the brain, reducing stress and consequently improving the quality of sleep. Through meditation, we also learn to respect our own rhythms and cycles.

3- Abdominal breathing is a natural anxiolytic:

When we are born, we breathe correctly. Over time, we “unlearn” abdominal breathing and breathe shallowly. Correct breathing is predictive of health, as deep, rhythmic breathing balances the autonomic nervous system. Our bodies have the ability to produce almost all the substances we need. One of these substances are endorphins, a hormone that provides a sensation of pleasure and well-being. These are manufactured in specific situations, such as walking outdoors for example. Abdominal (or baby) breathing is very important in emotional detox, as it has anxiolytic power, being very effective in cases of anxiety disorders such as panic attacks.

4- Establish uplifting beliefs:

Your belief patterns not only govern your behaviors, but your relationship with yourself and your perception of yourself and the world. Be very aware of your beliefs, as we are what we believe we are and we do what we believe we are capable of doing, within the sense of reality. Often the set of limiting beliefs that guide us in life are neither ours nor rationalized. We often don't know exactly how, why and where these beliefs came from, but they contribute significantly to our lives. In our development process, these beliefs were internalized in the relationship with our parents and family, as well as in the cultural context in which we were inserted. So, evaluate your beliefs and reframe those that don't make your progress as a person possible.

5- Develop a philosophy of life that promotes inner peace:

Our society has interests that often do not fit in with our proposal for inner peace. The frenetic life, the wanting to possess at all costs, putting as a sacrifice the psychophysical balance itself, is the price we pay for “civilization”, which constantly presents symptoms of malaise. Our educational system, for example, teaches us to serve sociopolitical and economic interests, but it is insufficient in teaching how to deal with our existential difficulties. Therefore, we need to seek to develop our heritage of “equilibrium values” on our own and one of the most valuable is the philosophy of peace. We can cultivate it through simple well-being-generating attitudes, such as the aforementioned meditation and some healthy habits such as walking outdoors, taking a break for silence, contemplating the sunset, listening to good music, reading a good book or even cultivate a garden.

6- Invest in healthy interpersonal relationships:

We are social, gregarious beings, and as such, we are constituted from the validation of the other's gaze. For positive relational dynamics, the golden rule taught by master Jesus is always valid: “Do to others what you would like them to do to you”. Acting in this way, we will undoubtedly build healthy and empathetic individual and relational skills, as by respecting otherness and taking responsibility for our actions towards the other, everything changes for the better. The result of this will be lasting and quality relationships.

7- Take the focus off the problems and put in the foreground the resources available to overcome challenges:

Take the focus off the difficulties. If you focus on the problem, you will only see the problem and the solution becomes masked or goes to the background making it difficult to visualize the solution. To get out of the focus of the problem, exercise mentally anticipating the results you want for yourself. This attitude brings powerful insights. From this perspective, proactivity is developed that will facilitate the organization of strategies and mental resources to solve any challenge. It seems like a simple tip, but much forgotten, because what happens in practice with most people is that they are conditioned to think “how they will solve the problem” instead of “how they will find the solution” and there is a big difference. Get out of this perspective and although the tip is very simple, give yourself a chance to try it out and see the positive results.

8- Invest in your self-knowledge:

There is no self-transformation or personal improvement without self-knowledge. It is important for us to respond in a balanced and conscious way to life and the challenges it presents, which are not few. This is because we will be aware of our conflicts and resistances, as well as our resources and potential, which generates self-confidence, self-esteem and self-fulfillment. From the knowledge of our conflicting and negative emotions, we will be able to detoxify them and give them a new meaning, which will provide more well-being, balance and inner peace.

9- Unload daily tensions:

The decision to live a light and conflict-free life, whether internal or external, necessarily comes from each one of us. Even because the conflicts we have in the external world are always an extension of our internal world. Knowing this fact, it is necessary to learn to download conflicting content through a deep work, one that goes to the root of the problem and that generate tension and imbalance. To this end, we can do positive mentalizations and mental relaxation before bed, relaxing massages, muscle stretching and especially learning to connect with nature.

To think about:

I hope these tips can contribute in some way to bring you peace, harmony and quality of life. Choose peace for your life. A quality life begins above all with balance and peace of mind. Let go of your past, your references and your conditioning. I sincerely wish you much prosperity and abundance and that you overcome all your challenges.

Always nurture positive habits, create new paradigms, always cultivate the joy of living in the small things of daily life, giving meaning and meaning to everything you do with optimism and gratitude. These feelings leave the soul free and light. I also wish them that they are not only fulfilled, but above all satisfied in the fulfillment of their life purpose and in their projects for happiness.
