When did “healthy” start feeling so complicated?

I feel like healthy living gets turned into this massive checklist , gym, diet, sleep, productivity, mindfulness, everything at once. Sometimes just doing what makes you feel a little more human that day is enough.

It never has to be complicated.... Its about Body, Mind, Spirit... (Physical, Mental, Emotional etc..) ALL OF IT, goes together "Hand-in-Hand".~ Taking care of one of these, always helps in taking care of & balancing out the other. ~

@PoliteOcean I absolutely agree with this. I think that’s a really healthy way of looking at it, rather than treating physical, mental, and emotional health as separate things we constantly need to “work on”, seeing them as connected. Taking care of one often naturally supports the others too.

Healthy living can and should feel different for everyone. It can be pressuring to fit into another person’s or the status quo’s idea of the perfect wellness checklist, but if overloading it all is having the OPPOSITE effect on you…is it doing its job?

My advice would be to set clear goals for yourself, so you only follow the health and wellness strategies that make YOU feel good AND motivated because it is in turn progressing you towards goals you set for yourself, ones that will make you happy and purposeful.

Here are some of my examples -

I go to the gym to feel good about my strength build a body that will sustain me when I grow old, not to compare my physique to those of others.

@hellomamas I completely agree that it should look different for everyone, and I actually do a lot of these things myself: gym, trying to eat well, working towards goals, etc. I think my question is more why has simply “being healthy” become so complicated in the first place?

There’s always something else we’re apparently supposed to optimise, sleep, steps, protein, screen time, productivity, mindfulness, social life. Even when they’re all individually good things, trying to do everything “right” can almost become another source of stress. At what point does working on your wellbeing start getting in the way of actually enjoying your life?
