boundaries are an important part of living a healthy life & maintaining healthy relationships.

how do you practice maintaining boundaries? how do you feel about boundaries? what kinds of emotions or thoughts arise when you’re thinking of these things?

@Kait the most important thing to remember is sometimes even two letters, the word 'no', could seem hard to say but still have a significant impact on setting your boundaries

@Kait boundries are not easy I struggle to say no to people cause I don't want to sound rude or ungrateful. And being disabled I rely heavily on my carers so boundaries are hard to set too😕

One has to do justice to themselves. Doing things for others is nice, friendships are great - but if things are affecting your well being and impacting your mission in life, you should remove it from your life without any guilt.

I had some friends who I felt weren't true friends because they weren't happy when I achieved something and neither were they giving me acceptance in how I thought - they were crossing the boundaries I was trying very hard to set. So eventually I removed them from my life. It made me guilty at first because I felt I hurt some feelings in the process. But today I'm really glad I took those steps because now my voice isn't stifled, I have better people around me. And I'm sure that the people I disconnected from have happily moved on in their life too.

It's great when everyone respects boundaries and maintain ties within those limits but it doesn't always work out.

@Kait

For me, I always try to push my boundaries whenever possible instead of always enforcing them on myself. It's because I feel like boundaries are sometimes just an excuse that I make for myself to avoid handling uncomfortable feelings instead of facing them.

@Kait To me setting boundaries is like pushing our way through the fear of the unknown. I've had many moments where I fear speaking up concerned by how the other person might feel. And I don't always mean like I'm afraid of being abused or harmed, but also fearing how my words might affect others, especially if they don't understand. Yet setting boundaries is how you overcome the fear and either improve the relationship or create an equal balance. It's definitely a tough, yet important situation.
