Fitness Groups - Outside the Niche
I've joined some groups in the past where I'm not the targeted demographic and have recently signed up for a set of classes like this again.
Has anyone else done this?
What types of classes/groups have you joined?
The targeted group I would actually fit is too niche, so I joined others at times and make them work.
@AffyAvo
I tend to join groups similar to your thinking.
But for me, I like to join classes with people not in my age bracket, usually many years older, fight it easier, more mature, experienced!
I hope your classes go well for you 😊
@Amanda84 Thanks! Yes this one is intended for seniors although the description does say senior and adults so seems like a bit of an attempt to be inclusive of anyone who is interested.
@Amanda84
Yes totally agree with this one…
As an instructor, of course I like being with various age groups. And find the fun in all.
But being an “attendee” myself, I enjoy working out with an older crowd as well. They’ve made some of the best workout companions during my classes. (Talking at least 10-20yrs more)..
As both a Nurse & an Instructor, working with an older population has always been my favorite.
@AffyAvo
Currently the weight/strength class I take, is a “basic” strength class. Targeted towards beginners… And is Attended by an older population (up to 10-20yrs on me), who got me to join in with them.
I love it because it worked for me coming back from “Post”-injury... But the instructor shows different levels to accommodate any age group or their personal abilities to help turn it up a notch as well!).. And it also helped me in getting back into adding weights to my routine when I was a Cardio-Queen … I’ve now been taking this particular class for almost 2yrs now. I enjoy the group I’m with, & We power through & get it done together! 💪🏼
Ps… (plus typically older crowds aren’t as “Niche or Cliche-y”) 😉 … They tend to be very inclusive of everyone.
Keep us posted on how everything goes!
@PoliteOcean Sounds like a great group! I'm glad the strengthen ling is going so well for you!
This won't be my first time joining seniors but is a first in that I wasn't seeking out a class. It's nearby, time works and was quite inexpensive so I figured why not.
@AffyAvo
Funny how the things we don’t necessarily “seek” out work out so well!
It sounds like it will be a perfect fit for what you are needing right now? You definitely mentioned some great benefits to attending. So Please definitely let us know how it all works out for you once you get into it & find your groove~ 🙂
@PoliteOcean
1st class was good! I'm definitely the youngest which is fine although it would be nice to connect with people who are closer to my age.
While overall the intensity is fairly low, there were some parts that engage muscle strength to a decent degree. There's also a fair bit of relaxation too.
So a bit more exercise than I expected, in a good way!
@AffyAvo
lol that’s how it was for me too! 😂
But I love this for you! So glad that it worked out, & that you found a new niche for yourself to hopefully continue to flourish in!… (And maybe down the line even meet some others closer to your age as well like you desire). Sometimes you just never know who will show up or walk in?!
Good luck to you on a continued great class that also engages you!
